Katrina Relief????

Post Wed Aug 31, 2005 11:38 am

My desire for the Pbase community is that we can figure out a way to aid those who have suffered great loss. There is so much talent in this community. There has to be a way to use these gifts to raise money to help those in need. Is there any way we can contribute images to a Pbase bank to be offered for sale to aid these victims?

This sounds like a good idea I just don't see how it could happen. I would be willing to donate some of my images but not sure if anyone would want to purchase them. I know many artist at pbase do have the quality of work that would sell.

Again, not sure how this could happen. Anyone with suggestions?

Or you can click here and take your pick of charities. Found this link on the CNN website.

Selling images takes too much time and these poor people have little time if any to spare.

You'd be doing more for them quickly, by giving to the Red Cross and keeping them in your prayers.

Sad, sad situation...

Also, please be aware that there are already Phishing scams connected with this tragedy. There was an article in the Washington Post detailing 3 of them:

katrinahelp.com
katrinadonations.com
katrinarelief.com

Beware of these.

If you want to donate school supplies or funds for displaced students and schools in MS or LA affected by Hurricane Katrina, visit:

https://www.katrinaschoolrelief.com

This is a safe site (registered with agencies, etc.) where you can purchase school supplies and direct where you want them to go OR purchase school supplies which a Registered Mississippi school vendor (https://www.schoolnook.com) will direct to those most in need OR make a donation through Visa, MasterCard or Paypal on a secure site for the same purposes.

Katrina Relief Gallery

Post Sat Sep 17, 2005 6:33 pm

This was shared on a list I am on.

In case you haven't heard, a really neat gallery has been established to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Gulf Coast Disaster Relief Gallery (http://www.explodingeye.com/disaster.html) is a collection of images from an international group of photographers donating their work for sale. 100% of the funds will be donated to the American Red Cross. Peter Cohen, the Gallery Manager says the goal of the gallery is to offer visual and tangible incentive for donating to the relief effort. My wife and I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and we still have family there. I personally feel it is a brilliant idea and have contributed some images myself. Please help spread the word about the Gallery and if you are a photographer please consider contributing. Check the FAQ at the site to learn more.
