If so what makes and what would you recommend as a starter kit?

Cheers, David

I use ND filters on occasion

I have some Hoya screw on filters I use when I need to get the shutter speed down for a given aperture.

I use graduated neutral density some times to pull contrast in a scene down. For this type I prefer the square filters by Cokin and others. You want square; so, you can slide the horizon up or down as needed to match the scene.

I mostly use Cokin graduated. On occasions when I forget to take them (or just don't take the time) I have used nik Color Efex Pro! Photo Classic Set Plugin in PS.

I have three Hoya ND screwin filters (X2, X4 and X8) which I sometimes use together (but only when I'm not shooting wide), and I now have a Cokin P system with a soft grad and two ND's (X4 and X8).

I have a lot of long exposures littered through my pbase galleries.

I have an Hoya ND4 and a Tiffen P-series ND Grad for my Canon... want to get an ND8 as well...
Definitely go with a rectangluar gradient - the circular ones are kind of pointless as the gradient is always in the center.. I went with the Tiffen P-series instead of the Cokin since the Tiffen is glass. I have to use it with out the holder on my 10-22mm lens as the wide angle pics up the holderr... so wanted something I didn't have to worry about scratching when holding it against the lens. The plastic cokins scratch easily... though they are much cheaper...

Thanks for the info, I am still in the process of research, which looks like it will also mean a trip to the bank! I will let you know when I have posted my first set of filtered shots, cheers David.
