My point was, having lived in Orange County (the whole county is gated, no blacks, no hispanic, in the streets where I lived), CA, 5 years and in Nashville, Green Hills, two years, I never understood only why to cross a street to find yourself in another world, I always felt sorry! Plus, on top is that the gates I know were protected areas, where rich people live. Friends lived there and we visited, to enter, knowing the code at the gate. Maybe I misunderstood the gate thing you guys are talking about. We have here....no gates, we do have doors, entrances, portals! This is nice to photograph!

I´m sorry, if I was misunderstood, but please respect also my point of view, regarding gates, the one I know from the US!

I will certainly join this challenge to show all nice entrances etc. here, mostly of baroque and old houses.

Guten Rutsch in´s Neue Jahr
wünscht Euch
Boris

Boris, here is a copy of our conversation where you agreed that doors would be included in our Gateways.

3. The Red Door... http://www.pbase.com/image/131584298/large Well I posted to the other link, but I guess it fit there as well. I really hate it when everyone is fighting here. I included door & doorways in my gates and gateways. Let's make it a positive new year on all sides. I have learned a lot from each of you and treasure everyone. Each of us has a different viewpoint, political and cultural bias. Part of the fun of Pbase is to share not be divisive.

borisalex wrote:The fact I opened a separate threath for the January challenge, raised some concers by others !

Here my responds!

To make clear:

1. I didn´t pick up the November challenge!
2. I was asked to open a challenge for December, because of lack of Interest from others!?? How come?? Uhh!!!(Read the postings in the forum)
3. I just asked for an alternative idea, even twice, totally ignored, for January, which is legitimate!!
4. I think stupid comments where started from a person in Pennsylvania and this already back in Beatles Challenge 2010 . Picture #4 "Girl"
5. I remember, that I had asked, why are not separate galleries opened for each new challenge back in October, I guess, this was also legitimate, and I accepted it. (after that, I was asked to apologize... to Scott! ....Uhh!!!) Is this a Kindergarten??
6. I´m aware what´s going behind the scene with mails between some Pbasers in regards to challenges and this already has been back in December 2009, to manipulate the challenges and in my opinion, this happened also with the lack of interest for a challenge in December (we wouldn´t have had one, if I had not open that treath) and the surprising "very".... early posting of the January idea by Coleen!
7. Again, I just asked for an alternative and I read that Lynn "decided" it must be gates, we didn´t even talk about gateways! It would have been nice to include Doors and Entrances in the title and not as an option in a side line!!
8. It´s fair enough to open a separate challenge , we had that back in August last year! So I thought there´s nothing wrong again!
9. The anger showing in the posting of Scott and Lynn with insulting words, just underline my opinion here!
10. Happy New Year!

I did not "choose" the multi-cultural option because in the winter I have difficulty getting out of my "basin" due to the snow. Most of the multi-cultural events are on the other side of the Cascades. Here in Klamath county, we have three communities and they overlap a lot. We have the Hispanic Community, The Native or First Nation and the dominant society which includes a few Asians, a few African-Americans and the rest of the All-American Mutts. It was not intended as a slight,. just an inability to access this time of year. Kerry

Boris, I'm not sure I really understand what you're hoping to achieve by posting private correspondence between me and Walter from a year ago; how you got the message is one thing but what do you think you'll gain from this? Walter and I were discussing January 10's challenge, I ventured that I didn't like the proposed February topic, perhaps in rather forthright terms than I should have but in my defence I was not feeling my best at the time.

So, what next Boris? You say you've got "more, even more personal!!" Is that a threat to me? To Walter? To who exactly? What do you think the other Challengers are going to think when they see this? Do you think they want to see more tittle-tattle and vindictive postings? Or are they perhaps more interested in taking photos and sharing those with the other Challengers, participating with good humour, learning from the others and having a bit of fun?

But for me personally, I am deeply disappointed that you've done this; I have made a conscious effort to support you over the past months, have found the time to comment on your photos as often as I could, and have even done so in (not very good) German. And you repay that by trying to turn Pbase against me...

You're only succeeding in alienating yourself - in three days, you've ticked off at least Coleen, Lynn and Scott, and today it's Walter and me. Why? What have you gained by that?

What a waste, you're such a good photographer too.

Doug

Another insight what´s behind the scenes:

(sent to Philip N, mcgarva, smit10pics, beady, lisamidi, mairead, availablelightimages, borisalex, Ann..., Kevin C, Maaike (emmelafoto), Peter Grant, Barbara Heide, RobbieD70)

Hi Guys,

The below is an exchange I had the other day with Walter about this month's Challenge and the proposed topic for next month. As you can see, we're not exactly sure that 'Name That Photo' is a particularly inspiring theme, and we're looking to maybe do something different.

What do you think? We don't want to cause any sort of animosity with our friends on Pbase, but the monthly Challenge should be a Challenge...

I know that not all of you participate, but I'm just gauging interest in a more serious theme for February - what do you think?

Bests

Doug

Boris,

You have absolutely no business posting any personal communications between two people that was not intended to be seen by the world without their permission. This is a very serious offense and an invasion of privacy. I have asked for the posts to be removed. I think what you are doing on the forums is very negative and counterproductive and has absolutely nothing to do with photography at all. Before you came along there was never bickering and fighting in the Challenges. You have only succeeded in creating discord and in turning a very nice group of people against you.

The answer is easy:

Hi Doug,

Just got home and read your message. I saw the suggestion "Name that Photo" too, which is being suggested by Bill Ewart Jr. of all people, who has never once commented on any one of my images in any challenge, and hardly on anyone else's. Needless to say I won't participate in that challenge because I think the theme is lame.

Here's a better idea, why don't you Phil and others who are more "serious" about the challenge post our own? Let the crowds do the "Name that Photo" and we'll come up with something suited to us that we like. Seems we take care of more than one problem that way and it won't be the first time there's more than one challenge at a time.

Please let me know what you think, and feel free to forward this to anyone who you think may be interested. I say if you can't be 'em or join 'em, go your own way. :)

All the Best,

Walter

Walter, all mails where send to me by you!!! Why is there any problem posting them here????

Mine for today:
http://www.pbase.com/mairead/image/131589711/original

Don't let the sun go down on your anger.
It seems that while I was out shooting pics for this challenge, a row was brewing.
I joined Pbase to learn about photography and thanks to the many talented and helpful photographers here, I feel that I have done that....at least a little.
I'm not naive enough to think that I agree with everyone's political or religious views or that they would agree with mine, but I don't
think Pbase is the place for that sort of discussion. In general I have found the community to be very friendly, encouraging and helpful.
We are here to share, learn, and have fun, not to score points.
