Well, you know Mary, I'm not even going to try to argue your points because you have to be so edgy - god knows you cannot discuss without being snotty as all get out. AND the fact that if one doesn't agree with you they are rationalizing their actions, not explaining their beliefs. One can dissect anything said in this forum and do the same..

Unless your grandson is named Billy, I obviously was speaking in broad terms about being traumatized.

I hardly have the time not energy to get into arguments that are akin to political ones.. NO ONE IS GOING TO CHANGE THEIR MINDS. It will just cause strife, and screw that.. I'm here for the fun of what I do.

The bottom line for me that I will NOT change my mind on is: this is an art site consisting of mostly adults who will continue to post photos that might offend children and some adults. It's not going to change unless we get a rating system - which I'm all for. Nudity and sensual shots have always been a part of the art world and it's never going to change. I believe if parents want their children to have photo sites they need to find child-only ones to start out with (if they exist).. If the parents don't know that the children are online doing this.. they need to put a babysitting system on their computer. It's pretty simple and can be disabled with a simple password by the parent when the adult is online.

This is not "rationalilzing" this is what I see as a SOLUTION and an OPINION.

How Sad

Post Thu Jan 20, 2005 4:35 pm

I seldom check the PAD Forum, and today I'm sorry I did. This "discussion" has been going on throughout history. It saddens me when any kind of censorship is suggested. It's so easy to move from censoring Hustler to Playboy to Newsweek to your daily paper. The justification is the same for all. That's why the fight always needs to be fought at the edges. Once you open the door, you might as well say goodbye.
Check out any bookstore. Say Borders. Books of photography and about photography abound - in the Photography section as well as on display and in the Bargain sections. A quick look will show you that photos of nudes are all over the place. And why? Because nude photography has been a part of photography since the beginning. It isn't dirt. It isn't pornography. It's photography.
The world is filled with things many of us don't like and don't want around us. And the responsibility to ignore or avoid those things is ours and ours alone. We don't need some "big brother" making decisions about what we should or shouldn't see and do.
I read an interesting comment in Williams Bate's response to this. He seemed to admit that maybe there could be some things that shouldn't be posted, but he also admitted that he didn't think he was the one who was able to make the decision. And that's right. I'm not. You aren't. None of us are. We don't need dictators in our lives, do we?
Who wants to step up and make the call? Who here would be qualified to make the call? Is it is breast, a leg, an arm, a bare back, what? If you think you know and are qualified to tell the rest of us, good for you. But you'd be wrong. It would only be your subjective opinion. And that isn't something any of us need ruling our lives. We have enough to deal with just handing our own opinions.
I surely hope this goes nowhere. We don't need censorship. None of us do, if you think about it.

Howard

Just a second while I summon my inner Robert DeNiro...
"You talking to me?"

Just for the record, I'm against censorship and never suggested that anybody should stop posting nudes or anything else. That which raises my eyebrows may appear tame to others, and vice versa.

Reading This thread through again brought to mind an old argument over the issue of California not allowing smoking in public places.

The smokers in general suggested they should have the right to light up after dinner, while the non smoking advocates insisted it was a violation of their rights.

So just who was infringing on who?

The smokers suggested that if a non smoker didn't like being in a smoke filled environment they should find an establishment that catered to their "clean air" needs.

Do the non smokers continue to move on as long as the smokers decide they want to light up?

One smoker and I came to an agreement. We both felt that adult establishments should be allowed to entertain smokers since everyone was old enough to make their own decisions concerning their health. At the entrance there were "21 and over" signs posted.

As for public restaurants we agreed that FAMILIES shouldn't be deprived the right to enjoy a good meal in a healthy environment just because there were some that felt the need to light up after dinner. If a person wanted to light up in a family envirinment, go to a designated area to do so.

I believe that maybe that attitude should be exercised here on PBase. I don't think ANYONE is saying NUDITY BE GONE! May just a little control as to where it is displayed.

Look what Slug did to the political galleries. A simple disclaimer on the index page would allow EVERYONE to head off in the direction they want to go. Look at what the Online adult galleries do. If PBase wants to become an adult gallery, so be it.

I always thought that if I were to ever want to post a gallery containing nudity (and yes if the right model were to come along I most likely would) I would make sure that I had every sort of precautions possible, such as OUT OF RESPECT FOR MY FRIENDS AT PBASE - PLEASE DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS GALLERY! This would be one way of seeing that it not end up on the popular page that is viewed by all ages. I would also have the model clothed in at least one image that I could use for my PAD with a disclaimer below the image as well as use it for the "representative" image.

As a fellow photographer I can't understand why anyone would want to showcase images in an environment of animosity. For some I firmly believe it is just for the shock value.

Geesh, I just wrote a book! Sorry!

Just call it Avant-Garde....I think it might fit this definition:
"An avant-garde work pushes the known boundaries of acceptable art sometimes with revolutionary, cultural, or political implications."

I think it means that people that wear black and have strange hair cuts will like it and they think us average Joe's just aren't smart enough to get it. I need some black clothing.

You know, I may just be a tired old fag, but I'm absolutely drooling at the thought of Jude, Jeanne, and Wanda together... especially if I'm chained against the wall in Bill's pic above!! Can I wear my chaps? Can I? Can I?

And Jude, I am in total agreement; (if Mary=jypsee), attacking a person because you can't find a logical response to their stated opinion smacks of fundamentalist blindness and fervor. Don't even bother send that shit my way.

PS- This is just to show the absurdity of this thread...really! Can it end yet??

We will NEVER all agree!!

That's what makes life so...............interesting!!
