You are so young. The rest of your life is much longer than the small part you have already lived.
All the possibilities are open ahead of you.
Make the right thing.
It's your choice, only yours.
Best wishes Jeremy.

I actually need to take a break from the commenting anyway. It's so time consuming, it interferes with time I should be spending with my family.

I saw that Jeannius has kind of withdrawn altogether from PBase for a while. I asked her and it's for this same reason.

So, this is just a convenient excuse to spend more time on work and family.

I actually may still comment on a few of my favorites, like I used to, but probably try to keep it to 10 minutes instead of two hours, like it's been laterly.

And Adal, if I've still got half my life ahead of me, I'm happy! That means I'll live to be at least 87!

I know how you feel Jeremy - I can only manage all that I do as I don't go out to work, but even then it gets a bit of a chore some days. Yeah, depends on my mood lol.

All the Best,

Ray - hoping to live to 102.

Not bad Jeremy, I'm sure you will!

PS
If I applied your formula, I'd I live 130 years...
Ha!

Who am I kidding? I can't stay away from commenting. My commenting hiatus lasted about 30 hours.

Here's a hypothetical question for everyone: If someone says something to 100 people, and 70 of them laugh, 29 of them are indifferent, and one person is OFFENDED, should the person not have said it? In other words, is it worth offending one person if 70 people laugh?

I am always intrigued by this issue. After all, what does a comedian do? Almost every single comedian you ever see gets lots of laughs by offending people.

My wife would say that even if only one in a thousand people are offended, then you shouldn't say it. But my thinking is that if you took that route, you would be quite bland. But I guess P.C. = bland in a lot of ways, right?

Philosophically yours,
Jeremy

Jeremy, just say what you like and don't worry about who's being offended or not. No need to step on eggshells, or whatever the old saying means. As long as your intentions are good and you don't set out to hurt or offend people then it's their tough luck if they get offended.
Over and out.

As the loop goes, I've been half in and half out since ending my PAD year. During my year, it got so I pretty much knew what to say, and to who. Looking back I can only remember really offending one individual to the point it got others involved.

Now I look at PAD and it seems that 75% of the members are new faces, (to me anyway) and I wouldn't begin to know how to respond.

Oh well... :P

Well said Jude, i really am suprised about the narrow minded attitude of some of the people on Pbase these days when i first started it was an open place where we could express and experiment and learn from each other without fear of repression, i can understand objecting to suspect photos including kids but we are expressing our art and or reflecting life in our photos, if you do or dont like a photo then say why, if it something that simply offends your sensibility just hit the back button and carry on viewing

Yippee! I read much more than I post, due to lack of time / being crap at commenting / someone said it first. I always admired your commenting, and was thrilled when you finally graced my humble pages! :D

I agree with Anna.. say what you will. If people get offended then oh well. I do NOT purposely try to hurt people.. in fact, I try not to, but I do have a sense of humor that only some can take.. and that I never aplogize for. One very wise person I know once said "Fuck em if they can't take a joke" I'm never mean-spirited so I dont' worry. And .. well... if we cannot laugh at ourselves.. got help the world.

Truth is.. I laugh at myself more than anyone else would. I'm a total dork .. but it's alright

I was doing ok until people started posting penis' coughing up phlegm and vaginas that looked more like parasailing beef liver.

A lot of times there is more to it than simply clicking the back button. When I'm sitting there with my daughter-in-law, and some zit faced chick sucking off her boyfriend pops up on the PAD meta-gallery, I become concerned, not to speak of embarrassed as well.

Why I even posted one image IN QUESTION that made Jude sick, and she is pretty open-minded.

I must confess I am totally confused by this topic.
One complains he has been offended
the other says he must be forgiven because it wasn't his intention to offend, that was a compliment instead.
then arrives another who says: wrong, you must offend intentionally, if you are a real man. otherwise life is not worth to be lived.
(100 Pbase points in case the Pbaser goes under his real name, bigger balls)
then another speaks of "jokes"
(sorry if I forget someone)
The discussion begins to be too complicated. My English vocabulary can't help me anymore... LOL

Have a great day folks, and happy shooting.
;-)

I think the Bee Gees said it best:

I started a joke
Which started the whole world laughing
But the joke
Was on me.
