I highly doubt that things are going to change. If anything, it may even get worse simply because some will feel the need to prove a point now.

I personally mad a decision that while nudity doesn't bother me, I won't take a chance of being put in an embarrassing position with potential clients or family members coming across an occasional "dick".

I have decided that $23.00 a year isn't much to just use PBase as a practice field or pictorial playground. And not expose (pun intended) those I love and respect to it.

For those upset, I would suggest that finding a more suitable host might be the best form of protest.

I don't know if it's because I'm somewhat new to PBase or what, but I have yet to accidently run across a nude picture when browsing the galleries.

Do you know what the name "Natalie" means? It comes from the Latin Natalis, and means born on Christmas.
Well, right on the 24 of december account "Natalie69" joined PBase.

things that pain me to read

As an artist I have a real hard time with censorship. I also have a very hard time deciding where the line should be drawn when it comes to nudity. I also worry when other want to draw that line.

To put thing into perspective. I live in one of the most conservative communities in the United States. The local University a few years ago had the traveling Rodin sculpture exhibit on display. OK Brigham Young University is own and run by the Mormon Church and they can do what ever they want. The problem was five of the most important works they refused to show. This from the AP. Associated Press (October 27, 1997). "The Mormon Church-owned Brigham Young University refused to display four nudes in a traveling exhibition of Auguste Rodin's sculpture. The French sculptor (1840-1917) is best known for The Thinker and The Kiss. The four pieces that were pulled from the exhibit included The Kiss and Saint John The Baptist Preaching, The Prodigal Son, and Monument to Balzac. Campbell Gray, director of the BYU Museum of Art is quoted (as) saying, 'We have felt that the nature of those works are such that the viewer will be concentrating on them in a way that is not good for us.' Rachael Blackburn, curator of the exhibit, said, 'We haven't had any other institutions that felt the need to not exhibit any pieces by Rodin.' "
They also added the "Thinker" to a list of sculptures they refused to show. The reason was they were concerned because local school children would be seeing the exhibit.

HOW SAD!!! Some of the greatest art works in the world were to provocative for children.

OK, I'm someone that feels there shouldn't be a "RULE". If you know there is something here that may offend you then don't come to PBase. I guess someone like Osama Bin Laden would be offended by anything that would show any part of a woman. We don't want him making the rules. I thought the rules that BYU came up with were every bit as poor.

I also think it is sad that so many people have over sexualized the naked body. OH, well I guess nobody would want me making the rules for everyone else either.

As to the young ladies site mentioned in the previous post. She clearly warns that there is nudity in her gallery. I guess if you open it then you saw what you expected. BTW, I think she is a model showing of someone Else's photos of her. I have no problem with that.

As to the PAD and nudity. I have always chosen to not show Wanda's bits and pieces because I know some up tight people may be offended. I have never worried about their children. Most kids in their innocence have no problem or hangups with nudity. That they get from their parents.

OK...so I'm back to the thought...We all know what maybe here...PBase and slug have allowed it to be self policing. If you are offended then don't come to PBase. If you continue to come and see things that offend you...I guess I'm not going to worry about it...yuo chose to come back.

My ramble for the day.

Interesting how I was able to access that from work (although briefly, I'll have to take a closer look when I get home... ), but I can't get to messenger.yahoo.com from work. I hope the IT Police isn't on the look out...

I too feel that the human form is something to be admired. We are each a piece of Art.

And a number of photographers here celebrate this in the most aesthetic manner. One particular gallery I like is by Manta Ray ~ not all of the images show breasts or genital regions but always celebrate the human form such as in this picture http://www.pbase.com/mantarayarts/image/27097315

Isn't it ironic that many of us would have seen, even sucked from, a woman's nipple as a baby, yet as a child, any sight of these in cyberspace is frowned upon.

Not being a parent, I will reserve my judgement on the 'naked bodies in random galleries' issue. But for those of you surfing PBase at work, worried about what your boss may say, I have little sympathy...

Hmmm? Nurturing shot versus well um "spread eagles" and "hanging Johnsons". Yeah, no difference I guess.

hmmmmm... some thoughts

Once upon a time I emailed slug regarding the "rules" of PAD and in his reply he said "...the only thing that I'm not going to like is pornography since it's a public area of the site." I guess if pornography isn't nudity (in some person's eyes)... and slug has some notion of what he thinks is acceptable on PAD and if he ever finds time perhaps he will decide what is pornography and what is... art?
For myself, I find the endless showing of body parts and peek-a-boo stuff to be kind of sad. It's pretty much a plea for attention and if those who put that sort of photo on PAD/Pbase were to put it out there "in public" that's what the rest of society would call it. I doubt that the exhibitors of their hanging johnsons or breasts answer the door that way or go to the mailbox that way or the grocery store, etc... putting it on display here isn't ordinary behavior, so it draws attention.... mission accomplished.
Finally, I often browse PAD with my 13 year old grandson who has seen the blatant nudity and he's usually embarassed by it. Guess what? he's getting the "hang" of being a member of society. He's supposed to learn what's public and what's private. In other words, he's more grown up than the people who let it all (or some of it) "hang" out....
Bring on those "snapshots that have been showing up in the meta gallery." I'd really like to see them.

Personally I don't have a problem with the nude pics. The problem I have had is being embarrased at work when I get random nude pics on the front page (so now I don't browse Pbase when anyone is around me at work). It's alright to say "If you don't like nudity, then go elsewhere...", but I think there could be a solution for all.

One possibility is to have a tag/category for 'Adult' or 'Nude content' at the Image/Gallery levels. Something like the Adult option on Yahoo Profiles. People could have a default setting in their profile for "Filter Adult content" and turn it ON/OFF. Turning it on would filter all such content in the random pages. Of course the only issue with this is that people might not categorize their pics as 'Adult' content.
