Users who post into PaD, photos taken on the current day?

Just an opinion rather than a link here.

2009 was my first full year of PAD and at first I felt I needed to post every day to keep up, this meant earlier on in my 2009 PAD I was posting a picture that was not taken on the day, however I always stated this. At the back end of 2009 I only posted ones taken on the day, or the day before which I had processed on that day. PAD has been a challenge for me because it is very time consuming, so far in January I have managed about six and I have renamed my PAD "Picture when I can". I really admire the commitment of people like Dave who Post every day on the day. I don't feel I'm cheating anyone with my own PAD but I do feel that the ability to constantly retag a gallery as " PAD " means people get a bit cheeky with it.
As for the exif I find that if I drop certain borders etc onto my final image in photoshop it changes the date to the date I edited the image anyway, so who knows what day a picture is really taken on, all I can say is now mine are, and I'm not about to change the way I edit photos.

I enjoy all of the PAD galleries I have on my favourite list, many of you who are on this Forum. So please all keep posting the great shots you take, and if you are a true "on the day, every day " Pbaser then I think you deserve the extra credit.

Actually, I take a least one picture every day, but I don't always post this one to my PAD gallery. As I'm working on thematic stuff, I make a monthly gallery on a specific theme. The pictures I upload to the Pad are processed on that day and "fresh" from the last few days...
I prefer doing it that way, as I like following a line... my daily pictures are random choices and not always worth to be posted... they are my personal memory...
For people doing a kind of photoblog documenting their day by day life and shots it is an interesting discipline... but I don't have this discipline and I enjoy looking at other peoples pictures, but I wouldn't blame someone, if the exif date isn't the right one... but the day before...

What is important to me is to take pictures every day... uploading is something else.
I understand, that for some people th "discipline" is very important and I respect this... Some (few people) do excellent propper PADs... but not everydoy is able to do something good and worth to show on a daily base...

I'm not right or wrong, just telling you , how I deal with it...

Hi. I started my first PAD gallery at the beginning of the year – a new year’s resolution to get me shooting more and trying out new stuff. My aim is to take one shot every day and upload that day or as soon as possible after – so the picture will be from the date stated. So far so good but then again the year is still very young!

This is my first time trying to post a PAD- I am sticking to taking a photo each day and posting it that same day. I am hoping the structure and discipline of having to pick up the camera every day and to make an interesting photo will help to broaden my photography, esp since I tend to hibernate in the cold and dreary northeast winter~
So far I've really enjoyed it, although as someone else mentioned there can be a little bit of stress wondering if I can really come up with something worth posting every single day.
The only times I can't seem to make it are when I work back to back 12 hour night shifts- just don't have the time or energy to do anything on those days!!

I'm trying to build up a list of users who post and maintain a gallery of one image for the day it was taken on. So if I view images on the 9th of Jan 2010, the exif data would show 9th Jan 2010.

Of course, there are a few of you I already know, but it would be interesting to see how big the group is now.

So if you are a daily shooter and poster, please add to the list and let's see how long it gets

It's funny you should ask this, and I'm glad you did because I was going to ask something similar. I was looking through the PAD listing (http://www.pbase.com/pad) and found that the majority are just ordinary galleries where there are a bunch of photos taken on the same date, or galleries which are more a "photo of the day" even though the image may have been shot ages ago. I was looking to see how people handled doing real PADs in terms of finding both subjects and the time to do it. This thread has given me a few galleries to look through.

1) State if you are a 'Photo A Day' or 'Photo When I Can' user

I've been going for just on a week and the intention is to make it a photo a day... though I'm not sure whether I'll realistically be able to do that. However since the objective is to build up my camera skills by regular use rather than "feast or famine" use I plan not to ever leave a gap of longer than 1 to 2 days, and hopefully I'll get better at managing my time to be able to do the shot and process it quickly.

I try to get a photo a day, since mid 2005, but am not always able. Like many of my peers here, I work full time (or more at times!) and others of us attend school full time. I only claim a "Photo As I Am Able". However, my usual pactice is to post the next day if possible. I missed a month and a half this past year as I had no computer. I also have no laptop to upload when I am traveling. I'm now using my son's spare (thanks Sean!) Window's based computer- which makes my Photoshop software useless (MAC).

I enjoy the challenges, They have helped me improve my skills in different areas. I still have a long way to go, and hope to work even harder next year when I retire. I enjoy the community of supportive people here that nudge each other into better photography. Some of us are not as literal in our interpetation of "Photo A Day" as some of you. Those of whom demand the literal "Photo A Day" might want to skip my galleries.

I take from 300 to 600 photos a day.

here I post one photo a day, even if taken 4 years ago. I just pick a dvd, out of the box, and work a couple of photo from that dvd, and so on the next day. The idea is to have memories of many years back, and share them by PAD. I don't know why people bee...leive they have to post a photo taken that same day, I cheque....d all laws of most country and found no laws that states that! ... Just have fun, do what you like and don't listen to anyone trying to force you to do what THEY want to do. .... ;;;))). That is true liberty, and the rule for a long life.

HAVE FUN in what you do, and yes do take a day off, and no, don't appologise for doing so! Unbeleivable the number of people Appolo..gising because they skip...ped a day.... get a life. I know, I know, I'm lucky to live in a free country, where I can do what I like. long live Photo-a-day!

This thread is not about the ethics of how people interpret ' a photo a day', but about collecting a list of users who maintain a gallery where a photo was taken and recorded against the day it was taken ( one photo against one day). This takes into account people that take and post everyday ( with back posts for holidays etc), and those who take and post occasionally.

The main interesting element is going to a users PaD gallery and looking back through the images and seeing what they were able to record on that day.

Agreed. I'm not sure that it's a question of ethics as such. To my mind there are two reasons to look at a PAD gallery. The first is to see where people are finding both the subjects, and the time to shoot them. The second is to see how people's skills evolve over time. You get both of those things regardless of whether someone is shooting and uploading every single day, or just shooting every day that they can, or shooting every day and uploading when they can.

However the large number of supposed PAD galleries which are "just some random photo taken between 1 day and 10 years ago" makes the formal PAD list all but useless if you're looking for one or both of the things above. I found it quite frustrating when I was looking through them. That's why this thread is so useful; it helps to identify the ones which are, for want of a better term, "real" PAD or PWIC (Photo When I Can) galleries.

Add me to your list. I've been participating in Photo A Day since 2004. I take a shot each day and post it the same day. On occasion I have to play catch-up, like when I shoot film or when I'm traveling or some such thing.

These are the rules I have tried to follow in my 4 plus years of PaDding. Here is one twist... I shoot within a 24 hour widow of posting. At times I shoot something late on the the day before I post it. I still am out at least daily (often more than once since I keep a camera(s) with me everywhere I go) trying to challenge myself to take something fresh. Just to say that at times that by definition may not fit into your "exif data request".

I have just started doing a picture a day this year. It is more difficult than I had originally thought but I am committed to one picture each day. We'll see how that goes and hopefully whether it improves my skills.

It is my intention to shoot EVERY day and post that day if at all possible, however, we do travel quite a bit; Tibet, Xingjang in West China etc, and it is not possible to post every day for obvious reasons. When I am away, I will shoot an image a day and post them in bulk when I get back. By the 31st I will have 365 images in my PaD, all taken on that appropriate day...

Here's My PaD Zuihitsu Gallery. Photos are usually posted and taken within a day or two. Sometimes for thematic and other reasons they're not. I suffer from chronic migraines and sometimes I can't shoot, so I do the best I can.
