I am sorry that Michael withdrew from PBase. There are always some jealous people who can't stand to see others succeed and that is where the ugly comments came from.
I have enjoyed PBase so much, especially getting to meet so many people from all parts of the world. I received a few very ugly, mean spirited comments about my "Hurricane Katrina" gallery that just added insult to injury but I'll be damned if I am going to let a few idiots run me off.
I hope Michael reconsiders.

I believe in myself.
I like my photos and that is why I present them to the world.
Nobody, paying members, guests or whatever can make me change my mind about my own pictures.
If someone feels the need to make ugly remarks it says more about him/her than it does about my work.
I simply would delete the comment but I would not let them chase me away.

I had some nasty remarks, mostly not on the quality of the picture but on the people on the picture. I completely agree with Marga; it says a lot about the one who is making the remark. I delete the comment and that is that!

Funny stuff here. Michael got some very negative and nasty comments, picked up his toys, left the playground and went home. Wow, what games we play.
If you are going to post on a world wide forum, you have to expect idiots to chime in and try to ruin a good thing. As I stated above, what I find funny is that the guy won, Michael left.
By the way, I have know idea who Michael is, as that's not important. What's important is you have to like your own work and not be swayed by nasty comments. As far as I know, Michaels work might not be all that good as compared to some others. No matter what's your level of photography, there is always someone out there better.
If you decide to live in an egg shell, you have to plan on getting a crack or two along the way.
Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

This was my PAD response to similar comments which I took too personally, but ended up having a good laugh about it.

The great thing with statcounter is you can see where they come from then smile knowing you're on their favorites!!

Doubt

First thoughts, turn the page and move on. My galleries spand from Anti-War/Bush rallys in DC, to cultures around the world. Every so often I get obvious comment, usually about the War. I move on and with over a Million hits, I keep shooting. If we are too sensitive to negative or a critique, then my lord move on. NOthing against anyone here, just a part of life.

Well I am for one that is glad the replies to this post went the way of Jayhawks post.

It's the internet, thicken your skin up, every corner of the net will have a few random folks that just want to be jerks.

Sounds like the good doctor made a rash decision in just giving up rather than exercising the admin controls that we all have reguarding how comments are left. Pbase has made an effort in giving the duty to all it's members in the form of how an individual account holder accepts comments. It can be set to only allow pbase members, no guests to post or it can be set to allow everyone to post comments but you get to review them before they become public.

I get these comments all the time and sometimes they are just the hard truth and I needed to be told that to get better. I am not here for polite affirmations, if that is all I ever inspired by my photographs I would never get better. Granted not everyone is here for that so again I am sorry we lost him but ya know, it's way nicer here than other places.

Yes for sure, but not only.
You can also guess what they think of you, even if they don't comment.
I have a regular, silent visitor who comes from a sub-gallery of her favorites.
This sub-gallery is named "favorites/self-conceited_ones".
I'd be very curious to know which are the other self-conceited PBasers.
I believe the naive girl does not suspect how "self-conceited" males can be, to the eyes of a virgin

Yes, and also a post in the forums like this one can work...
But I'm waiting for the girl to place a comment
and (metaphorically speaking) unveil herself... :D

I'm sure she's a little shy about approaching a well known celebrity photographer from Rome.

So the girl is almost right, calling me "self-conceited_one".
Almost, because I'm not self- but hetero-conceited actually.
And it's you who are conceiting me now

Has she ever seen you when you were stalking subjects in
your paparazzi disguise?

Fortunately my subjects often self-stalk themselves, so to say...
