Umm…I don’t think anyone is implying there SHOULD be rules to enforce… I just wanted to know what peoples definition where for their own PAD gallery….

1. Take and post one photo a day
2. If life gets in the way and no photo is taken, then an old one will do... but only as a last resort.
3. Photoshop is more than just ok... I love photoshop. It's the second half of the equation in my book.

i view my PAD the same way, with the exception of #2. although i haven't yet missed a day (only been at it a week) i think if i do miss, i am going to try to take two the next day, rather than just pulling up something old.

i am, in essence, "jumping on the bandwagon" but it has nothing to do with getting my galleries viewed. i was inspired by some of the great work i saw in other people's PAD's and thought "maybe in a year, i can be that good as well." I don't promise that all my shots will be great, or even good, but i will not post a shot purely for the sake of posting one.

i think its disappointing that non-PAD galleries are linked to in the meta-gallery, but it's that photographers problem not mine. i look at the ones that interest me and leave the others alone.

anyway, thats my two cents. :)

When I first decided to do the Photo A Day thing, it was because a friend suggested that we start one. I had no idea how much of a following there was on PBase with the whole PAD group! When I posted my first picture, I was AMAZED that within seconds Jeanne had welcomed me to the group (which I didn't even know existed) and had already included me on her PAD member page. I remember being so excited!!

I latched onto the idea of a photo a day because I thought it was a great opportunity to strengthen my style and to make sure I shot something each day. Before I started, there would be times that a few weeks went by without me touching my cameras, and that made me sad.

I mainly just want to get to know my personal style better, and without PAD and having to dedicate a little photo time to each day, I wouldn't have done a lot of the things I have been working on lately, mainly painting with light.

And last but certainly not least, the COMMUNITY!!! I am overjoyed everyday at the kindness and friendship of each and everyone of you. I cherish all of you, your photos, your comments, and the comradery that this group has. It's become a huge part of my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Rock on PAD!

for me, the PAD is a way for me to stretch my imagination in photography and to have my own visual diary, alot of my PAD's are a reflection of that day, of that mood.

no set agenda for me...

I stumbled on to the picture a day thing when I was investigating what I could do with Pbase...looked at the pictures -- took me several days to scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen and see how to make a picture a day gallery (I use a teeny tiny laptop in my living room and it has a teeny tiny screen: ergo the scroll) -- so I started making a picture every day and then decided that I may not always have the inclination or opportunity so I called it "semidaily." In addition, I think I may upload some oldies that appear in other web pages I maintain and some that are in my unpublished archives. That's what I think a PAD is.

For me a photo a day means "taking a photo a day", Not necessarily posting it that day due to travel constraints etc... For me it's a disciipline.. to learn how to use my camera, to train my eye, in terms of composition, and lighting etc.... Plus it is inspiring to see different photos others come up with each day....

As this thread has developed, and from looking through the PAD gallery, I've noticed something that's starting to irritae me. But before I get to that, I'd like to clarify a couple of points frommy earlier post. I mentioned my 'rules' in an earlier post, and it was just that MY rules for MY gallery. You can make up your own rules for yours. And I don't think there's any need to post on the day. The point is to take a photograph every day. If you don't get round to posting the pictures for a few days, fine.

So what's bugging me now? The idea that it's OK not to shoot if you "dont't have time". Surely the whole point behind doing a picturre a day is to take a picture a day. Not just when you have time, not just when you feel like it. Every day. Sometimes for whatever reason you just might not be able to take a picture. I missed one in back in June. But to set out to do a "Picture a day when I have time" (and yes there is actually a gallery with that title) is completely pointless. Where's the challenge? Where's the commitment? Where's the "...what AM I going to do today..." angst? Hey, it's your camera and you can do what you like with it. But if you're not shooting at a photograph everyday (and posting at leisure) you're not doing a Photo A Day. Simple as that.

LOL I have to agree w/ Vid on this one. I too think it's a pointless thing to do a "semi-daily" or "once a week I take a photo" gallery. Let's face it, it just people who are jumping on the PAD thing to get their images viewed. I mean, they could just set up a regular gallery to display them but we all know that unless it's a very exceptional gallery traffic will be slow.

Also, when I mentioned my view on photo manipulation, I didn’t mean to imply that I don't enjoy seeing some, it's when a gallery is nothing but old photos that have been reworked with a dozen filters or so that I don’t really care for. I mean, to me a PAD gallery is about taking photos everyday. Anyone can make “digital art” on a daily basis. I know because that is how I make a living…. ;)

I know we've been taking up a lot of Slug's time lately, but I wonder if there could be some way to moderate those galleries that are entered into the PAD meta gallery. I know that like Vid64, I am missing out on seeing a lot of the gangs shots because of all the non PAD pictures to sift through. Could we have a moderator and then when a person wants to be included the moderator will take a quick look at their gallery and see if they are indeed taking a picture a day? Because that's what the spirit of this is all about. One picture, every day. Not Spring 2004, Transport, Diverse or Vietnam 2003.......!!!

I think the meta thingy-mi-bob is almost useless at this point. I still rely on Jeanne’s wonderful link page to browse the galleries. I don’t even bother with the meta thing anymore. Too much non-pad stuff…

What do you think of perhaps Jeanne and Alon posting a LINKS page on this forum? Perhaps that will help us as well sort through who is and who isnt?
For those that are new to PAD as well.

Good idea but the people who click the link from the main Pbase page into the gallery aren't going to know who's really doing it and who isn't. Maybe there would be some way to put that link on the main PAD page?

Personally, I think that the "Make this gallery your PAD gallery" ought to be modified somehow. It appears at the bottom of every gallery. It allows people to arbitrarily select galleries and then even change them daily if they want.

There is also the possibility of complaining to Slug when someone violates the spirit of PAD. Does My Little Blue Gallery ring a bell? :) Today's shot was from June 6 of last year. How does he get that show up in PAD anyway? I thought you had to upload on each day for it to appear?

It bothers me too that people just use this to drive traffic to their galleries. All the real PADers are such nice, talented people that I think anyone visiting PAD should be able to see just their work and not some drop in.
