Anyone for a Kew meet-up?

Post Sun Oct 07, 2007 3:47 pm

Nicky Thurgar and I had a very, very brief discussion a couple of weeks ago about visiting Kew Gardens, now that autumn is on its way, and the Moore at Kew exhibition is in full swing.

I'd originally thought a weekday visit would be great (I love the peace and quiet at Kew during the week...): but understand that this probably won't suit everybody... -- so would be grateful if anyone interested could let me know -- through the PBase messaging system, please -- what dates over the next four to six weeks would suit them. (Hint: Kew recommend the weekends of 20-21 and 27-28 October, and 3-4 November as the best times to "celebrate breathtaking autumnal colour" with them...!)

Please note: the weekend of 27-28 October has now been removed... -- as there's a PBase meet-up in York on the Sunday...! Thanks!

[I shall -- bravely/stupidly (as I've never done this before...) -- add a poll for dates to this message, as well: so that we can at least get an idea of which date/s is/are popular....]

As a PBase meet-up virgin, I would also welcome any thoughts on where to meet and other such logistics, on top of Ray's brilliant sticky at the top of this forum. (I will of course be emailing the usual suspects: but please feel free to let anyone you think would be interested know about this, as well. Ta!)

I look forward to meeting as many of you as can make it!

Take care...

Autumn colour at Kew sounds a great idea for photo opps. I would like to come in principle but can not manage a week day.

Please note there is a Pbase meetup on Sunday 28th October in York - so that weekend is out for me and then we get into the issue of 'brownie points' either side of that!! LOL

Voting and/or messaging...?!?

Post Sun Oct 07, 2007 4:21 pm

It's just been pointed out to me that, in typical SRW fashion, I've been utterly unclear in whether I want people to vote in the poll or message me.... Sorry about that!

What I was just trying to achieve was to persuade people to use the poll as a way of indicating which dates (weekends?!) others were veering towards, without (if they didn't want to...) giving away too much detail in the forum -- whilst, at the same time, hopefully, pushing people towards the same weekend. I can then collect the details via the messaging system....

In other words, please do both!!!

Thanks!

Yorkists...?!

Post Sun Oct 07, 2007 4:25 pm

Ooh: as half red-rose and half white-rose, this is a battle I don't want to get into!?! So I apologize, now, for stretching the loyalties of those willing to travel much further than I'd assumed.... (And I should have known better, of course... -- PBasers being such a friendly, willing bunch...!)

I shall therefore assume that the weekend of 27-28 October is a no-no....

Sorry...

Having said that 3/4 november weekend didn't work for me it's now turning out to be the best choice for me.

It's a date...!

Post Thu Oct 18, 2007 7:40 am

Well, Sunday, 4th November it is, then! And I apologize now, if all the deciduous trees have shed their leaves by then... -- round here, they're already beginning to look a little bit 'thin'...! (I also apologize to those who voted for another date.... However, I go to Kew quite frequently: so if anyone wants to arrange another meet -- say, after Christmas; and/or even during the week... -- I'd be more than happy to take part...!)

If all those who can make it (or at least think they can...) could therefore please send me a message to let me know -- at the latest, by 31 October, please... -- I shall then send out final details (e.g. meeting point(s) and time(s); maps; what hat I'll be wearing, etc.): which I hope will give everyone the chance to (i) check availability, and (ii) give me a rough idea of what meet-up time would make sense for them. (As suggested by Ray: if up to six of us can make an earlier time, then we can make use of the discount; and then those who can only get to Kew a little later could rendezvous with us somewhere inside....)

Looking forward to meeting y'all...!

After a great weekend at the York Meet I'm in meet-up mode and looking forward to Kew. Who else is coming along?
