Question about image use

Post Thu Nov 02, 2006 2:38 pm

I have someone who wants to use one of my images for an art book. It's one of the shots in my "hands" gallery.

I have never had this happen before so I'm a total newbie on this.

1. Does one charge a fee for this? I mean do I charge this person for the use of my image?

2. If "yes" what would be the normal "fee"? Is there a "normal fee?"

3. Anything else I should know about this kind of thing?

Any help or nudges in the right direction or similar experiences would be so appreciated!

Thank you for reading this missive and for any help left.

Sincerely,
Andra Smith

Andra,

I would most definitely charge if this is a book for commercial gain. Otherwise I would refuse them use.

Take a look at this thread, http://forum.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?t= ... hlight=and you will see that Sheila Smart has given a link of how much to expect.

My rule of thumb is to always get something in return if they are going to get money from their product. Even if you don't have a clue on how much to charge. If us amateurs undersell ourselves, others, including professionals will lose out in future as they expect to use our work for next to nothing.

Andra,

I would second what Ray has said above.
