Take or Post a photo / day????

Post Thu Jul 13, 2006 6:56 pm

I'm new here.. and I think I could post a photo a day, but taking one per day is a bit of a stretch... Is posting one per day ok?

I dont want to cheat

How many of you actually take and post the pic per day? :?:

I take and post one a day but there are many that do just post one a day. Some days are real hard to get a picture and you can tell those of mine that are like that.

There are no hard and fast rules here.

Some take the photo on the day of posting and some just post
"a-picture-a-day", whatever that means to them.

Decide for yourself what works and go for it.

PS: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can play 'catch-up' or just
post the next time you're able.

No one is looking over your shoulder.

As mentioned it means different things to different people. Personally I think it should be more than just simply posting a picture a day. I think the useful thing about PAD is it motivates you to do something to improve your photography each day.

For me this doesn't necessarily mean taking a picture each day but I do at least try to process the picture I post on the day I post it. This is an area I need to work on too and there are many days when I don't take pictures because of sechedule and work but I can at least find a little time to spend on the computer looking at recent shots and selecting something to process for that day's post.

Many other people approach it differently of course.

I always felt the intention was to shoot and post a photo a day- but as stated, there are no hard fast rules. I always felt it should be at lleast somewhat current (recent) work in most situaitons. I will dip into my archives for the past week when I get really tied up- or I will just skip a day. Sometimes I get several pictures in one day I would like to share in PAD and use those on days I can't get out. Some people go on vacation or travel and can't post and then post those pics one a day when they get back. There are some people that, for health reasons, can't go out and shoot any more and they partiicpate by using their archives. I think all of it is cool and the important thing is the spirit of the thing and not any hard, fast rules. Just my opinion.

I try to take and post one per day, however, lately I have been battling illness and I have not been able to take one every day. If I do miss a day, I post two the next day acknowledging that I have failed to post one one the previous day.

I try hard to shoot something every day - it's that stretch that makes it worth doing for me. I don't always succeed but I usually do 6 days in 7. I also try to post something every day but usually I'm at least a few days behind in posting the picture I've taken. For me the important thing is to use the camera every day, not sit at a computer, posting it to the internet on the same day. I stress this is what's important in Picture a Day to ME.

I've tried to shoot a photo a day, but with work, family, vacations, etc. it isn't always possible. This past week, my wife & I got away (from the kids) and were camping (far away from any wifi hotspot...). Even then I wasn't able to take a photo a day. When we got back, I was able to "catch up" by prepping the photos I did take over our vacation and posting them for the days I missed. Starting today, I will be back to take a photo a day (at least until Tues/Wed when I have to go to NC on business).

Some people do a PESO Photo Every So Often, which greatly relieves the pressure of having to get something up here every day. Though I'd like to do a PESO, I think I would quickly forget and wouldn't have anything out here for a long while...

I generally take and post a picture a day, but if for whatever reason I can't I will dig into the archives and use a picture that is relevant to the day, i.e. I could have taken it if the time or inclination was there. When I'm on call and unable to get out and about I use other pictures, but they won't be holiday snaps etc. when there wouldn't have been a hope of me being able to take the shot.

There are other forums that suggest there's too much, and I quote, 'crap' in the PAD galleries. For the die hards it has to be a picture taken and posted a day. My view tends to be, why post a picture from the day, if it's only going to be sneered at. It's your paid for space, use it to show 'the good stuff'.For me reviewing and contemplating a picture you have taken, that may appeal to others is more important than than posting a shot for the sake of it.

At the end of the day, for me PADing has been a great education. I know a great deal more about photography, about editing, and about what can make an interesting picture. Previously I would have only taken 'tourist' shots, but I think/hope my horizons have expanded greatly through the PAD experience.

It can be hard work, but it's fun, and the one thing I love about it, it makes you look at everything you've taken for granted in a completely different way.

The only PaD rules that matter are the ones you set.

I did a year recently and posted something every day, except for two 5-7 day periods when I was traveling without internet access. More than 92% of my shots for the year were taken that day and posted that day. The rest came from "other" shots of the year that I photoshopped or edited in some way on a slow or crappy shooting day.

I believe that most people doing PaDs massage the "rules" in whatever way works best for them.

Enjoy yourself!
