How Many Artists In Your Favourites?

Post Wed Jun 01, 2005 8:42 am

An interesting one from Ray...

clickaway wrote:My favouries list is pretty lengthy and some artists there will receive a several comments in a row on occasions. And yes, my digits do get stiff sometimes...

So, just how many are in your favourites?

I've got 54!?! A fair few are non-PADers that I like to see their new work. I normally browse off the favourites list, rather than the PAD meta gallery. Loading 10 in a row into tabs in Firefox is much easier!

Only 54?

It seems I have 139!

Of course, many of those rarely get a look in, but the names are there to remind me.....

I clean mine out about every 4 months or so.. I take a quick peek then let them go (sob) if I dont' check very often. These days I've so little time that I go straight to my favorites and don't even get to everyone. I think I have 25 on there.

Of course, I love Scotland and England :D <--- big suck up face.. :B

Wonder if we have the same people?

Hmmmmm..... Maybe someone should start a thread where we exchange links to someone we think is fantastic but not many people know about?

What say ye?

Someone?
Anyone?
I won't be IGNORED (dan)!! ..

I've got 61. I would like to have 2 or 3 favorites list since I tend to divide up my favorites like that. I've got about 5 that would be in my favorite favorites, all from Europe. Is Greece in Europe?

Okay.. this brings up a question I'm curious about, although others might not want to answer..

But I'll ask anyhow as I'm a troublemaker :D

Someone recently told me there are not many people in the states on Pbase that are considered good photographers. Also that people tend to stick with other photographers from their own country as their favorites..

Do you believe this is right?

I will say that I don't have many people from the states on my favorites - but I do have a few. Is this just a fluke? (not me.. but in general)

and do you think i'll get into trouble for mentioning this?
do you think I care?

Jude,

I believe photos from Africa, Scandanavia, Scotland, France, Italy, and from Greece are among the most interesting to me. Now, although many of the photographers in this area are EXTREMELY TALENTED, I would have to say that a great deal of my interest derives from the cultural aspects of the photos. These places have history, they have fascinating people, and they are different than what I see around me.

I believe that if I spent a year in these parts of the world, many would consider me to be a better photographer simply because the subject matter would be more interesting. One in a thousand people in Southern California is as interesting as the people Antonis shoots on a daily basis. I happened to get lucky yesterday and stumbled on such a man outside Starbuck's. He was my PaD entry. I would love to fill a gallery with shots of people with such wonderful expressive faces and gestures, who are obviously brimming with stories and wisdom.

However, once you get past my top five photographers, the next group includes a whole lot of belligerent Americans.

Jeremy

I say patooie! and yes, that's how it's spelled :P

I think you're talking more about the subject than the photography then. I mean.. I agree about the photographers you've mentioned, for sure.. extremely talented who put out great photos day after day.. enough to make one shake their head and think "how do they do it?"

butttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt (that's one big butt).. a great photographer can kick out excellent shots anywhere.. so what say ye, Jeremy (that rhymes - and I know I can't spell that word).. have you considered that maybe the subject influences your choices as well? hmmmmmmm?

:D

Oh.. and this is just an intellectual discussion.. not an argument. I'm really interested in this because I find it fascinating..

Well, I'll tell you what, I do not know how many GREAT PHOTOGRAPHERS make their home in the suburbs, but if there are any, I bet they take their best photos AWAY FROM HOME.

When I want to find interesting subject matter, I head to somewhere at least 10 miles from where I live, cause it just ain't very interesting here.

Now, if I just wanted to take pictures of nice cars, happy people, and pretty flowers, I could do that here. But I'm talking about interesting people, landscapes, and architecture, which I think are my favorite photos.

So patoooie to you tool

I have no idea how many are on my favorites list because I've never counted.
Occasionally I'll refer to it for some strange reason but the real favorites list is in my mind. I know who's work, creativity and sense of humor, jive with mine.

I'm not afraid to seek out new photogs work here and I see stuff all the time that I think is underseen by the PBase masses. I often will skip over the thousands of birds and flower photos in favor of that image that appeals to me, no matter who's name is on the bottom. I have an affinity for all kinds of photography so why limit myself?

When I joined up here 3-4 years ago, I had just left Photosig which turned into an annoying place to be posting at. The forums there were filled with anger and idiocy (not everyone, just enough though) and I got
tired of dealing with it. That's probably why I rarely post in here.

I'm a lover, not a fighter (...even though I'm a "tough guy with a camera")

that emoticon makes me dizzy!

Okay. listen to me.. I MEAN LISTEN .. stop looking at the damn tv! lol

First of all, Jeremy.. patooie back (shit did I spell that wrong? does it matter? do you love me anyhow?) I think by your answer you are saying that it's the area as well as the photographer. so it's more than just that photogrphers from other countries are more interestiing..
:P

and um.. dan? Photosig sucked.. i agree. it's pretty bad when you get in trouble for LIKING photos.. :P

also when I go on the meta (which i do after perusing my favorites) I ONLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY click on the photos that strike me. NOT the names. I have discovered fantastic photographers that way.. it's amazing h ow many people ignore the good photo over people they like..

I also go on the populars to see what is up there. have seen soooo many that are fantastic.

what's my point?

i had one.. but i forgot..

is that bad (searches for batting eyelash emoticont)

Today I was forced to post a suburban picture of a happy guy in a nice car. And to top it off, he's got a dog with him.
