HUH? PEDESTRIAN HACK? JUDGEMENTAL ATTACKS?

Post Fri May 27, 2005 8:47 pm

Can anyone help me understand these two comments left on my guestbook and galleries? I have sent them both emails to try and understand what brought this on ... it's a huge mystery to me. I feel empty inside when I see stuff like this. Did I really offend someone?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Your judgmental attacks on other photographer's galleries has made it impossible for me to enjoy this work. Why so unhappy? Why so judgmental? Why use this shared space to denigrate? You're a horrible person. (Or at least you play one on this site with your comments.) Shame.

such sentimental garbage. show some heart, you pedestrian hack.

Oh nice, both emails came back as undeliverable.

What the heck? Some kind of sick joke?

I'm deleting the comments.

another reason to grab users IP when guests post onto images, another one for pbase to sort, I know it has been requested.

Jeremy,

I got these two messages under my Candids- Street Expression gallery and strangely decided to retain them to show others what cretins they were! They upset me for an hour or so, but the thing is the other remarks I have tell more of the truth I feel!!

From Franck Steven 8 Feb 2005 18:51

This is not art. This is "sunday" photography. Stephen Shore is an artist, you're not. Keep on trying...

From Paul Weichmann 8 Feb 2005 21:18

I agree with Franck. These pictures should be on a voyeur site. Since everybody has a digital camera, everybody wants to shoot and be an artist. Buy a Gameboy if you want to have fun, it might suit you better.

I guess they were two saddos just at a loose end, and the same goes for you.

Ignore them - they mean nothing.

Ray

William Bates pointed out to me that you can change a setting in your profile to keep non-pbase members comments hidden until you review them, then delete or make them visible to everyone. This seems like a reasonable strategy.

Hurtful people are strange, aren't they?

Incidentally I have heard from one member that my humorous comments sometimes have a bite. Please let me know if my comments on your PaDs rub you the wrong way. I am attempting to refrain from potentially objectionable humor. I try to reserve the particularly whimsical remarks to those who show the same spirit in their comments on my PaDs.

Just call me Jeremy P.C. Rebel!

Uh, that previous message was addressed to everyone, not just Ray.

NOW COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC, I just finished watching Fog of War, a documentary about Robert Macnamara, the U.S. Secretary of State during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations (Vietnam War). Macnamara, at age 85, narrates the entire thing in a Q&A format.

It's a powerful movie about a brilliant, resourceful and kind man who was thrown into a no-win situation with a national spotlight. It reminded me of situations I've been in at a couple jobs, but magnified a million times by media and political attention.

From a photographer's viewpoint, I found the film full of wonderful images, both old footage from various wars, and the current video of Macnamara doing the Q&A.

Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys history at all.

Jeremy

From what I can tell you're a very nice person and pretty funny. BUT you have this way of wanting not to offend people. What's up with that...LOL

sorry.. I have a very acerbic sense of humor.. I never mean to offend and I figure if I DO it's because someone is overly sensitive. I can't control the world..

wait a minute, i just realized that's not true.. I CAN CONTOL THE WORLD!

Jude,

I'm highly offended by your message.

You are a horrible person, a wannabe artist, a sunday photographer and a pedestrian hack.

(except for your "good" pictures)

Sincerely yours,
Jeremy

Jeremy, if there's one (or two) things that people are touchy about it's politics and sex. A google search for Sherry Lawton turned out among other things a Sherri Lawton whose husband was killed in Iraq. Maybe a chance political comment could have triggered her response in that case, if it was her.

A photographer who takes pictures of sundays or one who's born on sunday, obviously. :D

We on PaD are obviously Sunday photographers. Otherwise, how would we get Sunday's PaD up? Of course, we are also Monday photographers, Tuesday photographers, and so on, ad infinitum, et cetera, yada yada yada, blah blah blah, you see where I'm going with this.

I don't think either name is real Anna, the messages were left within 2 minutes of one another and both email addresses are fake. Seems like if you leave a fake email you probably wouldn't leave a real name.

My suspicion is this. About 8 hours before the messages appeared, I had answered a thread at dpreview.com about why pbase was so popular. I said "The Photo-a-Day community is the friendliest, most intellectual and talented group of people I have ever met on the Net." So I think maybe some smugmug or fotki proponent wanted to show me that I was wrong.

Maybe.

My other theory is that jude did it in a jealous snit. Jude, don't hate me because of my talent. It's petty.

Jeremy, that explains everything. On dpreview some people hate the word "intellectual"

:D
