How should i do my PAD? Hints anyone?

Post Mon Aug 29, 2005 4:27 am

I am fairly new to PBase, but i enjoy it so much I'm on here everyday. I have been a PBase fan/member for almost a month now, and I want to start my own PAD. I am also a very newbie photgrapher, with a simple point and shoot - not a fancy camera like those of you with Rebel XT's or EOS's. I will upgrade one day, but for now I want to adjust and refine my photographic tastes before I go deeper into this hobbie.

I would appreciate it if someone can give me hints/tips/advice on creating that perfect PAD.

Thanks in advance!!! :D

Hi,

I started with a point and shoot, and I would suggest you look for the unusual angle in anything you come across. And always have your camera with you. Perhaps you can use Pad as a sort of diary?

I don't know whether youlive in town or country, but this will influence your style.

Good Luck!

I've only been on Pbase for three months, but I have found that by looking at others' PaD's have helped me a lot.......Pbase has a TON of outstanding artists with great photos and great ideas.........and they are always willing to help.

Good luck!

Well, there's no such thing as perfection, and face it, it's far too stressful trying to attain it. :-) Your PAD could be anything you want - it can have a theme or be totally random. What makes it special is that it reflects how you view things, or life. Like clickaway said, you can use it as a photo diary - and carry your camera with you at all times. You never know what you're gonna see.

And don't worry about the point-and-shoot aspect. That's the type of camera I'm using as well. There are tons of things you can do with it, and if you use Photoshop, there's that many more things you can do with the photos.

Welcome to PADing.

In PAD, the only rules are the ones you set for yourself. So don't go sucking the fun out of it by trying to make a perfect PAD, just go out there and have fun. Always having your camera around is a good idea, make sure you never miss those breaking moments. Good luck!

Pad should be your motivation for dealing with photography on a daily or near daily basis. How you go about that is entirely up to you. Some people have themes but many do not. Some people like myself merely post a photo every day as opposed to going out and taking one every day. Your choice. No rules. Whatever you do, don't make it a chore.

As far as point and shoots go, go out and look at the some of the shots taken by those with some of those DSLRs. Some of them aren't very good. Having one does make a difference, but if you don't know how to use it then you are better off saving your money and starting off with something a little simpler and a lot cheaper.

Good Luck with your pad.

We were all newbies at some point, so I share your pain. Feel free to quote him, after all, it's public domain!

Well, looks like you will get a lot of replies here.

I've been a member (under a different account name) for the past year & half. I've been viewing the galleries & PaDs and saying "I'm going to do this!".

Well, a year and a half went by and I realized I was saying and looking but not doing. Finally at the beginning of August I decided to shoot for a week in a row, tomorrow I will have completed my first PaD month.

Two important things to consider about a PaD:

1) Do this for yourself, not all your shots will become instantly popular.

2) You start by taking one picture on one day...

There is a lot of good advice here, but one thing I would like to say is
it is highly unlikely you be able to post a masterpiece everyday so if your shot for the day does not get many hits dont get disapointed, as for your point and shoot learn to get the best out of that and devolop your style before spending
mega bucks on a new system and most of all enjoy it.
Good luck
Bob

I am almost a year in now. My rule of thumb is that I want an image to be one I look back on and think "Oh yeah, I remember that!". It doesn´t have to be a fantastic image, just something that you want to record.

When I look through my PaD gallery I see some great shots, some not-so-great shots and some quite frankly terrible ones. It doesn´t matter - each image reminds me of the day I took it. I don´t attempt to take a jaw-dropping shot every day, partly because I would get disappointed if I didn´t and partly becase like most PaDers I have a job and a family and therefore limited time.

Make it up as you go along. Works for most of us!
