Should WT just leave the metagallery idea alone?

A True PaD MetaGallery?

Post Tue Jul 26, 2005 8:41 pm

I'm sure I'll be flamed badly. I've only been around a couple of months, but I wonder if it's possible to start a true PaD Metagallery where posters really do shoot and post one photo a day. When I see the same name up there 4 times a day, sometimes putting up shots from 2000, 2002, and 2005 within 6 hours, it takes a bit of the enjoyment out of the metagallery.

I apologize if I'm speaking out of turn. Yes, I could take my ball and go play elsewhere, and who the *&^% am I to judge someone else. Don't worry, I know I'm an ass*(&^ and all of that.

But are there any kindred spirits on this point?

I have learned so much from Pbase; I feel badly pointing out something I think is a flaw. I do pay a little money to be here, but it's been worth it.

Best,
WT

Hey WT. I also have seen the same person posting 3-5 images each day. I do try to TAKE a photo each day but sometimes fail and rely on a previous image that I will work over in PS. Tomorrows image will be one of those I am sure. After all, the rules for this PaD thing seem to be very clear – THERE ARE NO RULES it seems.

I think the idea behind Pad is or was or should be to strive to be creative each day. Just posting an image from long ago will not make you very creative but I do believe in being creative in the use of Photoshop.

This has been gone over again and again.
You could limit people to one upload to their designated gallery per day, but how do you account for errors?
How do you ensure that the picture was taken in the last xx hours?
How do you get a disparate group of creative folk to agree on the rules, even if you had the slightest ability to enforce them afterwards?

The best method of policing the meta is simply to ignore the folks you recognize as abusing the system (to your definition) and view/comment/vote, for the folks who are faithful to whatever standard you feel is appropriate.

In other words, it's a free market exchange of ideas/images here. Take in what you want, ignore the rest, and be ready to be judged by standards as arbitrary (but different) than your own.

Cheers

Thanks for your comments. As noted, I've only been on Pbase for a couple of months. I appreciate you taking the time.

I think the PAD is very much a personel thing yes it has taught me a lot and yes it has encouraged to get out there and take photo's but due to work commitments it is not always possible to take a photo everyday so tend to a batch of photo's and post everyday, as the PAD galleries probally generate more hits than most other galleries, all I can say is that those people that post half a dozen shots a day are only interested in generating hit counts, personally I dont view those images as I think it is abuse of the system, but as there are no hard and fast rules that is up to the individual to decide what to do. my main concern is that the PAD gallery Remains.
If there was every a danger of the PAD disapearing then bring in the PAD Police in the meantime it is upto the members to Polive the PAD and ignore those that are abusing it

I think the suggestion to ignore the obvious cheaters is probably the best... I know that there are times that I can't post a photo for the day even though I've taken one - either because of time constrants or lack of internet service when traveling. However, I try to be sure that I post the past shots at the same time as the one for the day I post on so that just the one for the day shows up on the PAD meta. Policing the PAD so that only one shot could be posted a day would prevent people who have been on vacation or traveling to put up their shots even though they are only doing one for each day...

Agree with dazedgonebye (where does this nick come from???).
The only way is ignoring those guys that use the metagalerie in an incorrect way. One photo a day, if you post two or more, I just don´t click on them, and tomorrow probably I don´t even click on the first one, just in case...
I think is the only way...

No reason to tamper with the system.

If someone feels they need to upload a lot of images
in the same day, let them. They probably have a very
low esteem and need more attention.

We should probably feel sorry for them and leave long comments
under all their photos to soothe them and nurture their souls.
PBase as psychological baby sitter.

PS: I once uploaded two photos on the same day after missing
out the day before due to workload.
I ask only for forgiveness...

The gallery is a photo a day. To me this says - post a photo a day. It does not say you had to take the photo that day. C'mon - both me and my favorite model (my wife) work full time AND we have two kids. It is simply not possible to take and post a photo a day within the constraints of our every day lives. We draw from a reservoir. I am sure there are many folks in this position.
