PAD, Year Two and Beyond....

Post Tue Apr 26, 2005 9:34 pm

I am half way through my second year of doing this PAD thing, and I'm wondering, will I do a third year? Once in the PAD groove it isn't as taxing as it may seem. I can easily see just continuing on and on with year after year of PAD...but should there be a stopping point?

Do any of you plan on doing PAD a third year or beyond? What are your opinions on "enough already?"

Only you can make that decision, but I tell you why I stopped after a year or so.
I approached PAD here at Pbase more or less like any other typical ‘Photoblog’ on the web with the thought that it might be a means for establishing a visual dialog of sorts.
It did not take me very long to realize that taking the daily photo and posting it was the easy part.
While I was contributing to PAD the real challenge was to find the time to look at other people’s photos in depth, attempt to understand their images in context of the rest of their work.
I don't know if this makes any sense, but I basically stopped, because that intrinsic part of PAD, looking at photographs and writing comments takes a lot of energy and a tremendous amount of time.

Hi Lisa,

I am in a similar position to you, and I cannot see myself stopping.

I find PAD a great therapy and a great source of contact with fellow photographers.

I have eased off on commenting as much only because I"m busier, although I do try to catch up when I have the time.
I made a steadfast rule to only comment on photos that grab me.. which in no way reflects on the people I like on this site. Great people here..

I can't imagine stopping. One of the reasons is I NEED to post my photos where they are seen.. even if they dont' get a good reaction, as long as I like them. Being here has totally changed my view of my little world.. and I like that.

Of course, I learned last week to stop looking away from the road while driving in that never-ending search for a photo. Almost going head-on into a car is not a good idea..

just gonna do it til I drop I suppose..

Excellent ! I really enjoy visiting the UP through your photos Jude, and your view of your world.

I feel the same way, I'll probably be here until they throw me out.

I started in 2003 and though I now sometimes miss a day here and there, I do still enjoy it.

Not getting anywhere near the visitors I used to have though and I miss the old 'regulars'.
