The PaD bug is nibbling at me....and I am a newbie...help

LOL...
Hi Everyone,

I am fairly new and still have my feet very wet on Pbase. I am learning a lot from all of the great photographers on this site. I have not really been into photography in a serious way but I recently got a new camera and want to expand my knowledge. I originally got it to do astrophotography but also in the decision process was the idea of just taking pictures of Earthly objects too ;)
My Birthday is coming up soon and I see from the posts that some people start PaD on their Birthday. Yikes...I am not ready.
I have started to add photos to my galleries....some are ok and some need improvement. Are we all self critical of our own photos? I will go out and take a photo....later I will look at it and not be impressed. I will later see someone else with a similar photo and think it is great. hmmm is it just me or do others do that too.

I just had a look at your galleries and you do very nice work! Get that great camera out there and shoot everyday with it and you will become a master :-)

Your astrophotography is very interesting and I can see doing that on a regular basis as part of your PAD. Take the plunge whats the worst that can happen? You will get better and better, never worse.

Go for it!

Hi Steve,

I can relate to that - I'm my worst critic :)

You have posted some great pics in your galleries so far, so I think it's time to get out there and start PADing. Why wait for your birthday? There's no time like the present.

Hi Steve,

There's some good work in your galleries already and the best way to improve is to start a PAD.

I've been going for about 6 weeks now (since buying a 20D) and the very process of getting your camera out each day and using it will help you improve quickly. When you have an off day (we all get them) then you can always put an appropriate comment up under the photo!

The PAD group are incredibly supportive - probably because they all understand what it's like trying to produce a photo each day!

I look forward to seeing your PAD gallery when you get under way!

Do it - it might even change your life.... but there is a health warning... it's addictive. Warn your friends, relatives etc that you've started! :)

Do it Steve. The PAD community is really supportive and I've certainly learnt a lot from all of them. Ian is right though, you do need to warn your friends and family that you have other commitments - haha. Gail

Just do it! Your pictures are great and alot of the best PBasers come from Canada. We need some fellow travellers on our own journeys anyway!

My best tip is that you will get one or two really mind blowing shots a month, expect no more. If you get more... then well done! Basically, it´s a good way of taking shots you otherwise not might bother with and although they may be boring, them may be one of those sneaky shots that you think is boring when you take it and turns out to be a WOW shot.

Just start doing it and it doesn´t matter if your first month is crap... you will do different things, experiment, find your style, no matter if nobody comments on your shot as it just means it´s not that interesting as a thumbnail, learn more about capturing your world.

Also, don´t feel you have to take one every single day, just aim for 6-7 a week (3 on the same day if necessary). You will soon find out what yiou can manage.

I am 7 months into my PaD... my birthday falls in the 10th month!
