Keeping Interest in PaD

Post Mon Feb 28, 2005 5:47 am

What are some tips for keeping an intersting of keeping your PAD up and running? I have tried now several times to start doing this, but after a few days I always seem to have 'better' things to do... or i cant find anything to take a picture of thats interesting to me. Anyone else with suggestions?

As far as the encouragement end of it. I have had a few times that I became very discouraged. DO NOT be afraid to post your feelings in this forum. Other members have brought me through some rough times as they will you.

As far as ideas, shoot ANYTHING... I'm sure you have noticed a million flowers, birds and eggs. If you have a day that is uninspired visually, leave a witty comment on the day's image.

If time is a factor, post the first thing you shoot, (takes about five minutes of your time. Then on another day make up for it by really spending some time.

Hope this helps...

Even the most mundane objects can be converted into an interesting picture.

I don't know where you live (country or environment) or your lifestyle, but you should be able to get some good shots even inside your house on those indifferent days.

Why not try a spotlight for cool indoor lighting. Think about everyday objects and how you could use them creatively - the rainbow effect of a CD; reflections from a metallic toaster or similar, refelctions of buildings, portraiture, converting images to black and white or sepia.

Try a theme

Post Mon Feb 28, 2005 7:31 pm

Pick a theme make it a color or subject and shoot that for a week, a month or whatever. It forces you to look for things. I used red  for February and with one photo left I'm happy with my results. They aren't prize winners but I learned a lot about the color and myself.

Like was said, use common things around the house and change the lighting add a backdrop of anything. Shoot things you never shot before flowers, household items, family members, pets, food even. Most of all look at the other PADs and learn to use what others are doing and try to figure out how they did it. Good luck!

A realization I came to walking to a clients the other day with my camera in my bag... and a flock of Canadian Geese flew over, I of course missed the shot because the camera was in the bag on my back.

What did I learn, keep your camera in your hand and shot anything, and everything that catches your fancy, edit, eliminate, censor once you transfer the files to your computer. You will likely amaze yourself once you see all of interesting images that didn't seem so "interesting" at the time.
