Woooo!

Post Fri Mar 25, 2005 7:58 am

For this long bank holiday weekend, a kind friend has loaned me her D70 to see how I get on with it. I've been thinking about buying a digi SLR for a while now but apart from the money (ouch!), it'll mean a big change in the way I work. So, I have a few days to try it out for real.

What to do?? (apart from take some pictures and read the manual!)

...expecially for its DSLR weight!

Oh, and I have no experience of D70, but experts say it's the first Nikon that resembles a Canon
so must be good ;-)

See you've got some good results from the D70 already!

I'm another die-hard Canon user but the pictures on pbase from the D70 have impressed me.

So many people are diehard Canon fans. ;-)

I'm used to Nikon because I've used a coolpix 995 and then a coolpix 5700, so I'm tending to believe that I'll get to understand a Nikon DSLR better, sooner. However, I'm open to persuasion!!!

(Note that I'm already persuaded that I need a digital SLR - the difference between my 5700 and the D70 has had me quivering in the time I've been using it! )

The Nikon / Canon debate is always a difficult. I made the decision to go for Canon quite a few years ago - I looked at friends cameras and in shops and decided that Canon was the one for me. At the time the controls and thinking behind the Canon seemed more user friendly and the performance for the money was better.

I've been impressed with the D70 pictures on pbase - but I'm also impressed (and totally in love with) my Canon EOS 20D! :D

All I can suggest is that now you've used the Nikon go to a shop and look at the Canon models as well - it would be the EOS 350D or the EOS 20D depending on your budget.

The main thing is to swap to an SLR - as Ray says it will change your life! I'm sure whichever you choose you'll be delighted (and also forever poor as you add to your lenses etc!).

BTW It looks like you've got all Canon users replying to this thread - so we're obviously friendlier!

I went from Nikon to Canon because I was not getting on with the Nikon and I did find I was able to get on with the Canon better. I then went to digital and I know it is right for me. I find it really easy to use and understand.

Everyone's different but having used Nikon and Canon for the same length of time, I find the canon much easier. :D

The D70 is an excellent camera. I see lots of Canon fans but, for my money (or yours !), the D70 is much better than the 300D and considerably cheaper than the 20D.

Which ever, have fun but be aware of NAS - terribly catching - Nikon Aquistion Syndrome ...

Well, I did it - went out today and gave my credit card some last minute resuscitation and bought the D70 with the 18-70 lens. Now I just have to try to take some decent pictures with it!

I've already got a big shopping list of "accessories" but until my credit card has revived, they'll have to wait!

Thanks to everyone for help/encouragement. I'll be picking up my PaD again, (I'll need the practice!) so you'll see the results in my gallery soon.

"YOU" are the only accessory your camera needs... ;-)
