These eyes have a lot.

Post Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:32 am

On a recently completed medical mission to the Dinka village of Duk Payuel in South Sudan, I took over 4500 photos over the course of two weeks. Many of these photos were of children and adults with faces that reflect the difficult and poor lives they must lead. This is a photo of one of those children.

I think the eyes have more than "it"; they have several things:
- a picture of the lives they must live,
- the dirt and dust of South Sudan,
- some hope for the future (?), and
- in each eye, a perfect reflection of the photographer (me).

I'm Late...

Post Fri Jan 18, 2008 6:15 am

I know I'm late, but it was a very long workday. I actually took the photo much earlier today, I just didn't have time to figure out how to do what I wanted to do in Photoshop til just now.

Sorry about the lateness!

Lys

P.S.

Lee and Bev, I'm also sorry I didn't participate last week, but I'm really new at these and wasn't really sure what to do. My apologies, and I promise that the next time you get hijacked, I'll cheerfully add my two cents!

clarification

Today Matylda posted a comment on my Jan 17 TITC entry. In it she said: "nice shot, but you know my http://www.pbase.com/tygrys50/image/77406654,i hope?"

Unless I'm having a Senior Moment--which is always possible at my advanced age--I don't recall having seen Matylda's photo before I clicked on her link today. Apparently she'd created it for the Thursday challenge called "Seven" in April 2007. However I didn't keep up with the TITC postings until I got involved here myself in December. But be sure to check her image out--it is WAY cool!!!

I guess it's true what they say: there is nothing new under the sun!
