taking a pad photo in advance a couple days.. is that ok?

Post Fri Feb 09, 2007 2:41 am

Hi all.. I am back this year doing a PAD gallery and having a great time. I appreciate all the support and comments from everyone! Now I have a question, basically I want to know how everyone feels about posting a pad image that wasn't taken exactly on the day posted, but within a few days? Is that a problem?

To clarify a bit.. today I had a chance to get out (something I can't do daily) and I found a few pad images begging to be taken at the same location. I can't just go back to a place each day to take one at a time... so is it ok to share one a day for the next couple days, if I don't shoot anything new that I like better? ....is that still in the spirit of PAD posting? I hope so because I am doing the best I can and am having fun!

There are no hard and fast rules to PADing.

Though it may have started out as only pics taken that day, it's evolved
out of control to nearly anything goes. Everybody seems to have their own idea as to what it is.

Make your own rules and try to stick to them since it's all only
an exercise anyway.
Be original and be creative!

and I say YES to what you ask... you sure can use photos from the same day for your PAD gallery... I think they just want people to only post one photo per day in their PAD gallery and the dates taken don't matter...share always what YOU wish with YOUR CREATIVE EYE... really enjoy your artisitc views for sure Lyrical Laryl, John :):):)

I have been a PaDer in the very strict sense a couple of years.
A great unforgettable experience, I learned a lot.

I went on another year, posting my photo of the day out of the PaD.
Interestingly my "views" remained the same.
I was in the "favorites" of many people, it's clear.

Some months ago I felt the need to meet new people.
So, I came back into PaD, because it's the only way on PBase to make new friends.

My personal rule now:
I post in PaD a photo which represents my style and mood of the moment.
Most of the times it has been taken the same day, but may have been shot some days earlier, it hasn't a great importance for me now.

I believe this respects the "Spirit of PaD".
In faith.

Edit:

I am glad that eachone can make his/her own rules. I post one pic a day in my pad gallery making sure to show the upload date. But I am not able to shoot everyday at all. To live in a stone jango like my town it's impossible. Very dangerous.
And I've been having fun with my Photo-A-Day Gallery.

thank you all.. I like the spirit of posting photos that are no more than a week old.. I'll limit myself to that (unless an emergency comes up or something) I can "post" everyday, it's just getting an image each day that is the problem. :)

Hi,

For me it's like a challenge. I must take a picture each day, it's my rule. I will try to post it every day too. When we're going for the weekend for example, i can't post my pad, so i have to post it the next day. At least my photos was taken the good day.

I hope i make it clear because english is not my first language... another challenge for me :)

Martin, you explained it very well. I too like the challenge of taking a photo each day and posting. I appreciate your input and wish you great photos!

I started this in April 2004. This current iteration is the third try. My guideline is the title, Photo A Day. I try to take a picture every day. I try to upload it that day. When I miss a day, and I miss a lot when I'm working every other 24 hours that's just the way it is. I have other galleries and I put the good photos that happen in there, and the best one, or the most meaningful one in the PAD. I often link the two, so the best photo from a hike goes in the PAD and a link under it directs those interested to the rest of the photos from the hike. I used to have a PAD alternates gallery but I like the topic approach better, hiking, around the house, self portraits....

When I'm away and have no internet access I still try to take a photo for PAD every day. I upload them as a batch when I return, but with the gallery unlinked to the metagallery so as not to spam the metagallery.

So for me its not about uploading a photo every day, its about making an image every day.

Everyone is different. I'm much more interested in the galleries where there's a new photo from that day than I am in a gallery that's just a place to put any old image, uploading one a day but not from that day. Takes the challenge out of it, at least in my mind.

Since I was one of the earliest PADers on here, it won't surprise you to learn that only photos I have taken on the day appear in my PAD galleries and therefore the meta-gallery. During the last three years, there have been two days where I have used a scan of a photo taken by someone else to mark the death of my mother and aunt, but I see that as exceptional.

I'm currently taking a break from PAD and have just been putting any new pics in a suitable gallery. I do have a gallery 'Accident and Design' which can accommodate those that don't fit anywhere else!

I do hope as many as possible take a picture every day even if you aren't able to post it until later. Even with a point and press, you can take indoor shots with a not too much trouble. Test your mind and creativity!

I still watch this thread of course and appreciate new input.

I have decided that to me taking a photo everyday isn't the point. It is to try to shoot everyday, to come up with something new, yes but not the deal breaker. I can't afford to drive several miles to go back to the same location to take a photo I have visioned just so the date stamp says I took it on Saturday, then I took it on Sunday, then on Monday. If I am out on the weekend as I was a week ago and "found" several good red pad theme images and took them all on the same day it is a matter of saving gas, time and being reasonable that I accept them as a new photo of the day each day for the next several days. Occasionally a longer lapse, but all my images must be taken in the current month, must be new.

Afterall.. are we more interested in the talent of the photographer to come up with something new, anything, everyday.. or are we enjoying a new photo from a photographer each day? A fine line but there is a difference. The rule to take it the day you post it for is a personal choice and fine.. I've just decided it's not the deal breaker as I said.

Yes I could post all 4 on the day they were taken and force myself to do some fast pad image for the next day but I don't feel that pressure is necessary for myself. Maybe some month I'll restrict myself to that, but I have a life too and well.. the freedom to do my image for the next day a day ahead let's me relax and be creative when I have the time and energy. I'm setting up tomorrow's image tonight. thanks again!

Laryl...if you are coming up with good images that you are trying new things with than I think you are getting what you want out of PAD. I do follow a strict "must take a photo a day" program. Sometimes that way of thinking has forced some great photos out of me that I would have never taken. If I only shot when I was feeling it or whatever then I think I would get maybe one or two shots a week and miss out on some of the truly better images that comes from just needing something. I never just stick my camera up in the air though and click something. I do try and make every image I shoot look like I tried...but that's for others to determine. I say have fun...if you aren't and this becomes something you dread...Stop doing it!

In my opinion to take a photo a day in the strict sense is more than important, is ESSENTIAL (for the 1st year).
Otherwise, you will not learn as much as you can.
The strict PaD changes your way of seeing at things.
You will discover that "desperation is the mother of creativity".

This applies to someone that is learning and maybe new to pad, I agree. I have done pad in previous years and have been a photographer all my life. We all learn, grow and mature along the way but I'm not in it for those reasons, I do it just because it is fun and does get me shooting daily. And, unlike photo contests I've also done for years the pad is fun and relaxed. :)
......edit..... oh good grief, it's ME.. Laryl.. I am logged in under one of my group accounts right now and forgot. (and we can't delete posts? odd)
