If you guys want to suggest a restriction on the time lapse between PAD gallery uploads, bear in mind 24 hours will actually be far too long. Sometimes, people will post late at night and then quite early in the morning for quite genuine reasons.

I did suggest 12/24 hours which should cover a multitude of sins.

It should stop the abusers, help the show and tellers and help the PADers.

I still think having the option to nominate a picture that becomes the PAD shot would be good. It allows you do make whatever updates, text etc., before committing the picture to the world.

David's original suggestion is ideal.

Limiting EVERYONE to one upload per 24 hours to solve the problem of a few people abusing the system? Pullleeeezzzzzeeeeee!!!!! Take a moment

not everyone's "upload" to 24 hours.. everyone's meta gallery upload to 24 hours.

good lord.. only one upload a day to our galleries would be silly :D

I think the point was that you can upload whatever you like, but only one picture per user in 12/24 hours would hit the PAD meta gallery.

What would happen when you are in catch up mode after spending 2 weeks out of town holidaying in the sun?

That's why I like the idea of being able to select a picture. If you unloaded 10 pictures the last one would become that image, so ideally you'd now have a choice.

I understand the abusive situation that is being discussed (one particular user comes to mind!), but isn't dealing with those particular individuals a better solution than instituting restrictions on the entire meta gallery?

I suppose that since I've been doing this off and on for three years I've developed a tolerance for the abuse of the metagallery. And yes its abused and no, I don't click on those images, and try not to visit those individuals' galleries.

My solution to the batch up load to a pad gallery after a period of no internet access is this. I remove my PAD gallery from the metagallery by unlinking it. I then upload all the photos that are waiting. I then relink the gallery and upload the photo for the current day. That way my current photo shows up in the metagallery. None of the batch does. But they're in my gallery and anyone who wants to look at them may.

I do think that the worst offenders in the PAD metagallery might do with a bit of chastizing. But I'm not going to do it. I rarely comment. I rarely have anything to say beyond "I like this picture". Although I'm always very pleased and a bit embarrassed when someone comments on mine. And since I'm saying I like it by looking at it I figure that's enough.

But I'm not in contest mode, I'm not competing to be in the popular galleries or sell my photos or my services as a photographer, so maybe its different for other people.

My prefered solution: Add a "filter out this user from the metagallery"-option. What bothers me most about going through the metagallery is the huge loads of rubbish. I think that is a much bigger problem than the occasional photographer that is desperate for attention. Even very talented photographers fall into that abyss from time to time. But my solution would even allow the viewer to get rid of those poor souls - on top of all the tiresome girlie-photographers etc.

I assume you mean blacklisting people from YOUR view of the PAD meta gallery?

Yes, of course. Sorry - I thought that was evident.

That statement sort of bothers me. I'm probably one of the rubbish makers. There are a great many PADers who aren't great photographers. They try to make a decent, sometimes even good image everyday. Not all of their images are great. But not all of the pros put up a great image everyday either. But we stick to it, we keep trying and keep learning. Do you have it in you to give the people who are learning a break? Have you ever made a comment on one of those "rubbish" photos to try to help the photographer solve what you see as the reason the photo is rubbish?

I would never dream of ignoring the work of any photographer other than those who clearly were just out to get as much attention as possible or to share porn pictures.

What I meant by "rubbish" was basically the incredibly rude pictures of a pornographic or semi-pornographic nature that is turning up all to frequently everywhere on PBase. I certainly don't mind erotic pictures but a lot of the pictures in question are just far to explicit and I strongly suspect that most of the photographers posting those image are not particularly interested in improving themselves - neither technically nor artistically. I am just asking for a way to make it easier to ignore those images - as I do my best to avoid them already.

I think you will find that I am a pretty busy comment-maker. I have favourites, of course, but I am constantly exploring PBase to find anything that interests me a - and I honestly have a very open mind.
