I may be being thick, but just noticed when i uploaded my pad today that the colours looked very different once posted.. I tried reducing my image size and reposting but that made no difference...

Hi.
PBase doesn't modify your uploaded original (unless you choose to with the recompession option). You could download it again to verify.

I looks like a color profile problem. I loaded your original into PhotoShop and it has an embedded profile called: Pro Photo RGB

I could definitely see more color in PhotoShop. I think that most if not all browsers probably don't support this color profile which is why it looks different in your browser.

I'm not sure what photo editor software you're using, but in PhotoShop I used the convert profile option to change it to the sRGB profile.
Then I re-uploaded it to http://www.pbase.com/image/69927092/large
An extreme difference. (I'll delete my copy after a while. I just wanted you to be able to quickly see the difference.)

So for now I would suggest converting images to sRGB before uploading.
I chose sRGB more or less at random, because I see it often, not because I'm an expert and know the best one. Maybe someone else will have an opinion on the best profile.

As we approach offering printing services, and I learn more about the intricacies of color profiles, perhaps we can detect profiles upon upload.
If the profile is one we know is not supported by web browsers, possibly we could offer an option to have PBase convert the profile right then.

Hope this explains it.

Web browsers do not support color managament. The only color profile that is used / understood / implemented is sRGB. So, always convert to this profile before uploading to PBase.

Then again, how the colors will look on the viewer's computer is highly dependent on the contrast/brightness settings and calibration of his/her monitor...

Lightroom

I noticed this with a few of my images posted about a month ago. It is to do with the images being posted in Pro Photo colourspace, which I thought peculiar as I had never used that.

However, I discovered that Adobe Photoshop Lightroom uses ProPhoto as its default colourspace, so that images looked correct on a calibrated monitor, when in Lightroom and Photoshop, but not when posted onto the web, which as stated only recognises sRGB.

I've now added a step in my 'prepare for web' action in Photoshop that ensures the image is in sRGB before posting.

I think that's just with this latest version, I've been having a hell of a time with my WB/Color settings lately because of this. It's driving me insane!!!!!!!!!!! Is there any way to change the default color space?

Worth spending a few minutes thinking about your colour profiles and workflow. Personally, as my camera can save in sRGB, my computer displays sRGB, jpegs for thr web are entirely sRGB, and my online printer only accepts sRGB...can you guess the rest yet?...I have everything profile in sRGB.

I have a similar issue. I shoot in sRGB, and photoshop is set to sRGB. But when I post to pbase my photos show differently in the 2 browsers i use. The photos show perfectly in Safari (Im on a Mac) and then they show lighter in Camino (which I use most of the time for web surfing etc.). Are these browsers set to dif color spaces?

Here is a screen shot of the two browsers side by side (Camino on the left, Safari on the right)...
