pictures not showing up on popular photos

3 days ago, which soon received 9 votes, but has still not made it to
popular photos. Any reason why it would not be included?

It's either been nobbled by jealous rivals, or else the clockwork updater has yet to click round. Once they put a bit more coal in the boilers it should show up...

how do you know you have 9 votes? are you saying that if someone says they voted in the comments that they actually voted? I've never fully understood how the system works.

Unless peeps are just saying they voted & then forget to vote ... I dunno ..
I have had several images where the comments about "Voted" are shown & yet the shot does not show up on the Popular Gallery

certainly, and this was my point, too. I've had photos in the past with a dozen or more votes noted as comments, but those photos never came up on popular galleries, not even with a couple of votes...it got to be something I just assumed I would never crack so stopped looking.

When I vote for a photo or gallery, I seldom say so. Sometimes I vote without leaving a comment due to being in a hurry. From time to time, I will visit the popular galleries and popular photos just to see if the gallery or photo shows up. Everytime I have looked, they have been there. I do not look each time. It is just that the times I do look, the photo or gallery is there.

Yes, I would not count on all those 'V's being real votes.
Some just seem to be playing games with the system to
further their own vote gathering.

Pbase is not the only website to have this issue come up.
It's been happening for years on other art & photo
websites that feature voting.

I vote for images that move me, period.

Happened to me as well. I saw 8 or 9 votes under some images, they went to the popular, but has about 5-6 real votes. Happens. Sometimes it's just takes time, but sometimes not all V or GMV are for real.

how many votes do you need before you start climbing up the pbase ladder? The voting process here seems a bit corney, although I don't really have a better solution myself.

Are you talking about galleries or indivdual photos?

If you have say 5 votes for a given photo it will be quite a few pages down the popular listings and many may not look down that far. You probably need about 10 to get noticed by more.

But hey, it's not about votes, is it? It's about having fun
