I have read the topics about posting but am still not clear: Once you designate a gallery and you either upload or copy a photo to that gallery, does it automatically appear or is there a step I am missing?

I did the above (copied a photo) but it has not shown up

You have to make sure that you gallerie is mark to be you Photo a Day gallerie and the botom of the edit page them you upload or copy your photo. Note it can take a few minute for your photos to show up in the gallerie pad

Copying a photo into your PAD gallery from another gallery will not do it. Copied photos do not trigger the "updated" flag in the pbase database that puts your new photo in the PAD metagallery. It has to be a fresh upload. So if you want the photo displayed in two galleries you should upload to your PAD gallery first and copy into other galleries from there or, if the photo is already on your site, upload a second copy of it to your PAD gallery.
