You are correct about the 4:3 ratio. The lowest common denominator was about the average household using a 800 x 600 monitor. In order to keep you best web work on the "top" of the page, one usually sets there area to reflect a 800x600 window.

Some programmers use a flexi window that adjusts to whatever resolution the monitor happens to be.

Changing your pics to a 4:3 aspect ratio involves cropping. You do not want to compress the image into that size unless you really want that result. I usually base the largest pixel number to 800 and then allow the other peramter to self adjust so that my photos stay in proportion.

I dunno what my screen resolution is. I am just glad the thing works. I have had three monitors blow in the past few years. I knew I needed to fill out those warranty forms. Oh well. It is set to true colour though and the type is a bit small. When I am making comments so I can’t see what I am writing sometimes.

1024x768 on both a 12" iBook and Windows PC with a 15" flat screen. Usually rezize to 800x533 but have just changed my resize action to 600px high on a portrait format pic. I hate all that scrolling......

I am using a 19" Dell calibrated w/ Spyder Pro 2. It runs 32 bit @ 1600x1200, but I usually run it at 1280x1024.

I understand the problem. I usually set my images at 1000 pixels down the long side (that leaves 714 on the short side).

I am almost sure nobody else uses this one:
19" on a crt trinitron monitor, resolution: 1464*1100
Thx to matrox i can choose the exact resolution i want.
I always thougt 1600*1200 is too much on a crt 19" and 1280*960 is not enough.. while 1280*1024 has the wrong ratio.. so I made up mine.

For the ones interested here is a link to the resolution stats:
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

You will see there that 25% of users are still on 800x600 and 55% on 1024x768.

I personally use 1280x1024.

1600x1200 on a 15" Dell laptop monitor. 32 bit color.

I upload the majority of my images to my gallery at 800 x 533. Large enough to see good detail, small enough to discourage potential customers from obtaining more than a decent print at 4x6 from a downloaded image. (I'm not much on slapping copyrights across the image).
