I Confess; I'm a Hit Whore

I just started a series of Galleries, 2 days ago i believe.. My memory sucks bad..

I could not believe the hits count as I was uploading the pics.. started at 200 ish after an hour, 1000 ish after 3 hrs, 3000 ish after 1 day, and now I am 5314,.. wow!

I don't think i cheated, and I am overwhelmed I think! Actually, I am not really sure how this happened, as I just sent the link to the website today, to some of my friends.

I enjoy comments and especially critique, so please have at her!!

My hit counters are pretty much all over the place; some shots have very few hits and others are way up there.
I had one gallery go absolutely wild for a few days - literally thousands of hits every time I looked at it. I accidentally discovered I got a mention on a porn site because I called the images in it "Voyeur shots" - not thinking of the implications of that when I did it. They're just all candids - mostly on the street, sometimes in other places. No nudity.
I pictured all these people hot-footing it over from the porn site to have a look at my voyeur shots and wondering why there were no up-the-skirt pics and why everyone had their clothes on.
Someone must have complained (::sigh:: and no, it wasn't me - I'm a hit whore and was enjoying the soaring counts) because after three days, no more mentions; very few hits.

This is exactly the point. Everyone, obviously like the idea to receive visits to their own galleries and to imagine that visitors feel like looking at their pictures and maybe appreciate that.
But when only the gallery, I mean the thumbnails page, gets hits, while every single picture has very few and there are no comments at all (to the gallery in the whole and to some pictures), then I think one has not any reason to feel very gratified, because the number of hits can depend on a misunderstanding in the title, related with a search engine, which leads there people who were looking for…something totally different.
One of my gallery has a very high number of hits, it’s not one of my best galleries, according to my opinion, even though I always try to post pictures which are not totally ugly snapshot, because I love photography and I have respect for it, also if I’m just an amateur, without any presumption.

I just wanted to throw in my two cents on this subject which is near and dear. I too am a "hit whore" - more in the sense that Pbase has helped me so much to grow as a photographer, even though it quite often puzzles me as the previous commenter noted when pics I LOVE often go ignored, while pics I think are just average get praised to the hilt. I find it amazing that the photo with the most hits in my entire collection is a pic of a bunch of semi-topless mannequins in a shop window with a sign on the window that says "cover up your butt." see it here: http://www.pbase.com/khtaylor/image/43288653
I guess any photo site is going to have it's share of googlers looking for skin. It's just a shame and I wish that Pbase would make it's statistics more comprehensive. For instance, I'd like to see some tracking ability, at least when it comes to direct links. I've finally added a signature embedded in my photos (starting 1/1) so that if someone does "borrow" an image, it will at least be identified as mine.
Lastly, thanks to all of you fellow Pbasers who've taken the time to encourage and critique me. The fellowship here is priceless.
