What in Amsterdam?

Hi fellow members,
Tomorrow i am flying to Amsterdam. I have googled the internet and found buildings, squares and other architecture stuff to capture.
I was just wondering if any of you (maybe someone from Amsterdam) could tell some interesting architecture points in the city? I am interested more in modern architecture and also a bit in the old one. About the old architecture i has some sights which are the usual ones and most famous for the city.
I would appreciate some help from anyone

Rotterdam has more to offer if you are intrested in modern Architecture. Only 1 hour by train.

I was in Amsterdam in October 2006
In my opinion it is very nice and quiet city ( except Red Light District of course )
