There are many famous museums and palaces to see in Madrid including the great hunting lodge of Gen. Franco which is known as the palace of tapestries; however the best place for photography will be the nearby town of Toledo in my opinion. You can get there by bus or train in about 45 minutes. Don't miss it.

Toledo was the old capital of Spain before Madrid. It's a fortified town on top of a hill and has some very beautiful architecture -

I have to agree, you'll get lots of good shots in Toledo. I also enjoyed the Prado -- but I don't know if there are any rules for photographing there.
