? for photographers in Greece & and the seasoned visitor

Post Thu Aug 24, 2006 1:06 am

Greetings!

I and some friends will be traveling to Greece in mid September. We are flying into Athens and staying there for a few days. We're then thinking of doing a tour around the Peloponnese. We will only have about 7 days maximum before we have to be back in Athens to fly home. We'd love to get an island or two in there also. I want to go to Delphi, and would like to roam the area of Tripoli as that is where I'm told part of my family originates. We have no specific plans of where to go or how long to stay anywhere....we're just 'winging it'.

So my question to you...either a resident of Greece or a seasoned visitor of Greece....what are your favorite places? To stay, to eat, to photograph....to simply be in. If you were my tour guide, what would you recommend?

Efcharisto!

We spent 2 weeks in the Dodecanese islands - Kos, Leros, Patmos, etc. You can get there via ferry or a air. Our trip was just wonderful - these are very simple islands for the most part and not touristy. My photos from the trip are posted here: http://www.pbase.com/callieian/greece Wherever you end up you will love it. We have rarely encountered such wonderful people!

Hi,

I have been to many places in Greece and many places that I wish to go but have only a couple of weeks every summer so it is not easy.
I am going to Santorini this summer for the first time and I am really excited about it. But I have been to many many other places. Santorini always looked too touristy and avoid it for years.

Well, concerning the tour... 7 days is a little short for all the places you want to see.
Tripoli is in the middle of the peloponese, in the south of Athens and Delphi is on the north from Athens.
The best would be to go first to Tripoli ans stay there for a day. You can go by Ktel (the buses of Greece). Then back to Athens and take a daily tour to Delphi (http://www.greeka.com/greece/greece-tou ... i-full.htm)
Then back to Athens and take a ferry to anu of the islands in the Cyclades. I would recommend Naxos because it is for all tastes. Otherwise there are many many islands. You could check http://www.greeka.com
They have many destinations in the Cyclades

If you can, try visit the Islands, they are very beautiful esp. Kefalonia, where I went last September. The beaches are great esp. in the evening when the sun is setting. You will have a wonderful holiday and there will be plenty of photo opportunities=). Some of the best are taking them of the locals etc.

Hi,
My wife and I visited Athens, Delphi, Mikonos and Santorini and found that it was a great mix, culture, history, lazy beach lounging and unbelievable landscapes. It was a wonderful trip.

You can read about it and see the pictures here...

Have a great trip!
Cheers
