I was there in 2002 and had a pretty good time. I was visiting a friend and we spent most of our time in a small charming village named Anogira, but I pretty much saw most of the Greek side of the island. We also spent some time in Nicosia. I crossed the border and spent the day on the northern side and found it quite interesting. I must admit, however, that I found the ongoing bitterness between Greek and Turkish Cypriots a little unsavoury. Some of the comments I encountered definitely crossed the line of xenophobia if not outright racism. There were also those who weren't all that happy about an ethnic Chinese person like me walking arm in arm with a Cypriot woman. Oh, and I didn't much like the racial profiling at the airport. I have numerous stories but this is perhaps not the right forum for them. In any event, beautiful landscapes, wonderful food and generally friendly people.
