Havana, Cuba, Land of Salsa and Socialism

Post Sat Jan 14, 2006 8:56 pm

This was one travel destination that I missed here; Havana, Cuba.
I wonder how much longer this place will retain its 1950 allure and beauty.
Fidel is still the big man in charge but as everyone gets older, his days too may well be counted. Cuba will undergo a big change once Castro's strict regime ceases. Many of my fellow photographers have already visited the place and returned with great images.

Keith Muramoto : http://www.pbase.com/kmuramoto/havana
Steven Russell : http://www.pbase.com/nodfather/western_cuba
Edouard Lomont : http://www.pbase.com/saodika/cuba_2004
Jason Evans : http://www.pbase.com/jrevans/cuba_2004
Michael Barker : http://www.pbase.com/embee66/cuba
Jerry Pratt : http://www.pbase.com/jerry_pratt/havana_cuba

and many more. Just type in "Cuba" or "Havana" in the Search bar.

Last summer we decided to travel to this land of magic, one of the greatest photographic Meccas, known to man.... and what a place it was. Portraiture heaven, a paradise for all with an interest in colonial architecture, friendly people, great climate and strangely enough, it was safer than we anticipated.

I have written a journal for anyone who is interested in going or anyone who has been and likes to read about it to refresh some memories. This is not a request for votes or visits but after having browsed through 8 pages of travel destinations and not finding Cuba among them, I decided to add it to the list.

Havana, Cuba, Land of Salsa and Socialism...

Beautifully written. You could publish it together with the pictures. I would buy it.

Why are you advertising the other photographers galleries rather than your own? You have great work in your own Cuban Gallery. Chris

Hehehe, I am not advertising my work, I am advertising one of the greatest photographic venues. I am definitely not the first, nor the last person to have photographed many of these people, cars or buildings. Looking at more than one artists impressions will give a potential visitor a few great ideas and provides scope for their own work.

Thank you srijith. The link you provided is a truely great one! I doubt that I would be able to add anything but I enjoyed reading through the facts and basics. I should have visited this site before I went on holiday. All the aspects of Cuba are covered and to much greater detail. From now on, I will suggest anyone with an interest in heading to Cuba, or anywhere in the world for that reason, to check out http://www.wikitravel.org

I am amazed that anyone can edit or add to the travel stories and information. I am truely impressed.
