I am starting all over. Purchased Nikon stuff since the late 70s. If you had a chance to start all over, would it be Nikon or Canon. Love Canon’s glass but never had luck with their bodies. D700 or 5D ? What do you think?

As I under stand it D700 for sports and action work, 5D for portrait and landscapes... If you're starting over, are you planning to buy all new lenses as well? All that Nikon gear is froward/backward compatible from 1980 onward. A large (re)investment in lenses would sway my decision making process. My .02¢

Both systems offer huge ranges of bodies and lenses capable of excelling in any environment. What are your needs? Sports? Wildlife? Fashion? landscapes?

I was a dedicated Canon shooter until the summer last year and switched to Nikon and "started over" I shoot landscapes, studio, macro, wildlife I traded up the D700 for a D3x and picked up a D5000 for playing around in the studio. Once you find your need, picking some kit is quite straightforward..
