using old canon lens

i just got a 5d mark 2 and looooovvvveee it. my daughter bought a canon 650 at a yard sale, the camera was made in 87. there are 2 canon lens in the case. can i use the 50mm ef 1/1.8 on my new 5d mark 2?

Welcome to PBase! The 650 was the first model in the EOS series, Canon introduced the EF style lens mount, with autofocus, etc. with this series. EF lenses are compatible with your camera, this should be the lens:

i used it with my 5d, i have only zoom lens and this is my first experience with a prime lens. i will play with it some more but it acts slow.

That one is in the first generation of Canon's auto focus lenses, also one of the least expensive they produced. Regardless, it's a simple and solid design, and the optics have received very good reviews for the image quality it produces. Welcome to the world of primes, you might be surprised and find it produces better images than the zoom lenses, and zooming with the feet is good exercise. Just watch out when you zoom out by backing up :mrgreen:
