The ring with the red stripe on which the hood attaches has come loose on my lens (just spins round and round). Is there a DIY solution or do I need to send it in to the CPS centre for repair?

Here is an illustrated parts breakdown for the 28-70, if you can identify that it's a simple matter of some set screws this may help, otherwise it's probably best to send it off to CPS.

Thx Doug - I decided to wait until the end of football season and send in the lens to the Toronto CPS service centre. In the meantime, I have the ring "stuck" on the lens by adding two small pieces of tape that make the diameter just that much thicker to hold it on by friction.
