Still images with a webcam

Does anyone know of any third party software that can control a webcam? I want something I can set to take a still image at intervals and save it to the hard drive.

most webcams come with their own software. for processing of the avi images to stills, try Registax. Amateur Astronomers use webcams to take pictures of moons and planets. do a google.
