Tamron lens

Hi Im wanting a macro lens for close up photography I'm a a weekend hobby photographer so dont understand a lot of the tech stuff Iam learning tho.Im wondering about a Tamron F3.8-5.6 28-200mm lens,I have a nikon d40x camera ,dont want to spend a lot of money as it isnt my proffesion, any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

If you're looking for actual macro, this lens won't do it. It should be classified more of close focus, with limitations (Maximum Mag. Ratio 1:4 or a quarter life size). Tamron makes a 70-300 that gives half life size (1:2) which would be a better choice I feel, though not ideal if your intended use is shooting insects. There's also galleries explaining other ways of increasing magnification using extension tubes, reversed lens, diopters and such.
