Buying Cannon 40d and 24-105/4EF IS USM Lens any info thanks

HI all I"Am new to Photoghraphy. Bought my first DSLR a Cannon rebel xt
In june of 2007 and have been having a blast with it. Being. I'am a coast to coast truck driver and I get to a lot of cool places for 8, 10, 14 hrs. or a couple of days every week or so.I like my rebel xt just fine but the lens could use some help i.e. EFS 18-55mm and a EF 75-300. I noticed my 16 year old getting real good shots with my Rebel xt when she used it, So I figured why not give it to her to get great photos when i'am not home. I think the lens upgrade would of been all I needed but wanted my Daughter to have a Rebel xt. So any help or thoughts on my up grade to a 40d and the 24-105/4 EF IS usm Lens would be greatly appreciated.

I got the 40D in january and sold my 300D.
The camera is perfect for the price that you pay.
But with this camera i would go for the Sigma 17-70mm lens. Works fast, clear pictures and not so loud. It does not cost so much and it's a good combination.
I am very proud of this combination

Thanks for the the info I went and bought the canon EOS 40d with the canon EFS17-85mm IS lens hope to have lots of fun with it.
