I currently own a canon 20d, EFS 17-85mm, Ef 70-300mm. My husband wants to buy me a BD gift. Should I ask for a Canon 5D package with a 24-105mm EF l series or get one or two L lenses and keep the 20D.

Fairly new but very focused photographer, (no pun intended),
looking for input.

I gather the 1st mention of 5d should be 20D? I would go the 5D & 24-105mm.

I have a 20D as my 2nd camera but am thinking of upgrading to a 40D for the technological improvements. I also want a lighter camera than my 1DMkIIN to carry when not photographing sports.

You probably meant to post that you currently have a 20D. What will the 5D enable you to do that you can not do with the 20D? What gaps in your lens coverage do you have if any - focal lengths and/or apertures?

really depends on what you want to do....

if you're predominantly interested in landscape and portrait work ... go the 5D (but remember that the 5D Mk II, or what ever Canon will call it, should be out before the end of this year ....ok ok sounds a long way away but....)

sports, shots of the kids, general stuff including some landscape and portraiture then keep the 20D and get some good glass

I went the second option... was going to buy the 5D body to replace my 20D but ended up getting 2 L series lenses 17-35 2.8L and 70-200 f 2.8 L (and because I'm a pov-photographer they were both second hand) no regrets.. the wide L zoom may be old and twice superseded model but still a big move up from my Sigma wide angle and the 70-200 is such a big step up from my old canon 70-300 it's like moving from a holga to a leica

Keep the 20D buy new lenses. New bodies will continue to come in and out of favor. Good lenses are a better investment. If you have to buy a new camera skip the 5D and get a 40D..much better camera overall  .

Same boat here except I have a 10D and I am looking at the 5D, I also want to dump some decent glass for better L glass I already have the 100-400 L and I am looking to get a 70- 200 f/2.8 L IS USM and a bigger fast 400 or so. I shoot mostley wildlife and a good bit of sporting type action( Field trial dogs in action).
