PLz Suggest a Cam below US$300

i want to buy a cam but have no clue, there r so many models
i m looking for a student type camera with good results and atleast some manual controls. which can also fit into my jeans pocket.

so far i like Nikon and Canon.

Plz Guide.

I have always found the Canon point and shoots excellent. Try something like the Canon A720 or the A650 which should give you the most bang for your buck. It should just about fit in your pocket. The price will give you enough change forr a good size SD card and two sets of batteries with a charger. If it has to be smaller then check out the Canon SD range.
