From what I've read elsewhere is that many earlier units were not affected and units produced later were already free of the defect and that, as such, replacement would be done on a basis of a range of serial numbers.

My local shop is still listing the MKIII as in stock and availible

you would be surprised, but given it's in the (almost certainly automatically generated/preprinted) signature area of the letter I would say highly unlikely that they would have a misspelling there

Apparently the affected range of Serial No's is 501001 to 546561.

"How to identify affected products:

If the serial number on the bottom of the camera is between 501001 and 546561, it could be affected by the “AF mirror adjustment issueâ€

Bulbmagnet you better check to make sure your new camera isn't broken...and to think...it could be the equipment in this case that is making the pictures OOF!

Or maybe the front/back focus problems...combined with your..."unique" style.....would result in shots of things IN FOCUS!

Get your hands on a mint sealed one of these defected ones ASAP!!!!!

No of course not, how could canon ever make a mistake?

If they can get the manufacture of a major camera wrong, they can miss an L of retail
