Please help... I'm a novice photographer... :)

Post Mon Oct 29, 2007 12:41 am

Hi! I just got my new camera... Nikon D40X.... I'm liking it so far... but one problem I've been having is I cannot figure out how to use the LCD when taking pictures.... how can I do this??? My eyes get so tired looking into the viewfinder... PLEASE HELP.... I don't know much about this camera yet. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if there are any books you guys would recommend for a beginner photographer - I would appreciate this as well. Thanks a lot! :) Hope to hear from you guys...

Most DSLR's won't have the ability of viewing using the LCD. Some newer models do, but this isn't one of them as far as I'm aware. I guess it's what you get use to, but since I grew up shooting film, I've never liked using the LCD. Each to their on. You can find a "review" of the D40 here:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond40x/ which will give you a fast overview of the functions available on your camera.

Also, there's plenty of information you can find online about photography, such as here: http://luminous-landscape.com/
They have excellent articles which you should find helpful. You can also do a Google search for specific questions, and find more than imaginable.

As Dang said, you can not use the LCD for taking pics. If you feel that your eye(s) get tired looking through the view finder check if the diopter is set correctly. You can set the diopter between -1.7 to + 0.5 and if it is set incorrectly you will definitely ruin your eye(s).

Don't worry, you will get used to looking through the viewfinder :D It does have its benefits in that you can control camera shake. I often wonder about the outcome of images taken with cameras held at arms length :?
