I have a Canon 30D camera, and I am considering buying a new lens..and am tossing up between:

Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM Autofocus Lens

or

Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS (Image Stabilizer) USM Autofocus Lens

I like the idea of a 400 zoom, but also like the wide angle on the 300..but can only afford one hehe, if anyone has any advice Id love to hear it :-)

It depends on what you want to take photos of, but the 100-400 is likely to be a sharper lens and give better results. The 28-300 would serve as a reasonable carry around range.

I want an overall good zoom lens for everyday images. The zoom I use at present is a borrowed 70-300mm kit lens.
The other lenses I own are the 17-55 kit and a Canon 60mm Macro.
I am considering the 100-400 now, from B&H.

The 100-400 is a big lens and I don't think it'll be wide enough as a general carry around. 28-300mm would serve you well but will be a little slow on occasions. An 18-200 might be a better compromise. You might want to check out the Tamron and Sigma offerings for Canon.

For not much more than the price of the 28-300 you could get the 100-400 plus either EFS17-55 IS f2.8, EF24-70 f2.8 L or EF24-105 f4 L and I think you would get better quality and a wider spread of focal lengths.
