nikon d40...

Post Fri Oct 05, 2007 6:01 pm

Hi,

I recently purchased a d40 and I am very happy with it. I want to invest in getting some more lenses and I would like to get some feedback regarding compatabilty since I may want to upgrade later to a d80 ot even the d 200

Thanks in advance.

Anything that works on a D40 will work on a D80, additionally, the D80 has a screw motor for AF lenses that don't have the motor in the lens, like the 50mm f/1.8 (or 1.4).
Nikon D300, D200
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D, 55mm f/1.4 micro, 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G DX, 80-200 f/2.8D
Apple PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro
Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop CS3

Compatibility is not a problem. If you are thinking of upgrading then consider good quality lens which will last a while and which fits the type of protogrpahs you like to take.

Lenses for D40?

Post Mon Oct 08, 2007 3:56 am

Hard to say, because you don't say what you want to do, but I'll offer that the 70-300mm ED is the best "bargain" long zoom I've seen. While not at the level of the 70-200mm, it is very good, especially with VR. Since the D40 has terrific noise control and image qualilty at fast ISOs, the lens becomes very practical even at f5.6 and 300mm.
