Can't decide? Compare them side by side.

Ask yourself what are your demands. Zoom, aperture, shutter speed, megapixel, how much you are willing to spend etc. I am experienced with the A70, the A80's predecessor. I can say that the A70 is an effective and effecient digital point and shoot camera. In fact I call it the best buy for non professional people who want a digital camera for casual or family use. I would not recomend it for professional or working business however.

Seems you are looking for a non-compact camera.
Out of the two, I would choose the S1 for the zoom capability.

I'll go for S1 IS without hesitation.

Note that 10X zoom is very useful in the DC world. It not only allow you to grap subjects from distant apart, it is also vital to blur the background in taking protrait photo. DC is very differnent from traditional camera. Having a 3X optical zoom DC, it is hopeless to blur the background, no matter how big is the aperture, even as big as F1.8!
