I first heard the rumors two weeks ago, but had no indication of what type of camera or what end of the market it was. As I couldn't wait any longer I ordered the D200 ETA next week. Anyway no regrets.

Im still pleaased with my D50 no problem.
but its good to give Canon some trouble :)

end those indian tales:

12-24 F2,8

400-500-600 mm primes with VR

15% more pixel density than the best Canon :)

anyway Nikon is really back in the race

Just had a quick read on that press release. In terms of accuracy, I already have faith in Nikon. My only personal concern is the performance in low light shooting. On this I wish they talk a bit more ...

Anyway, for someone like me who's thinking of changing gears this year, GREAT news.

An interesting trivia note: The D3 is being introduced eight years after the ground-breaking D1 professional digital SLR. In 1999, a time when digital photography was in its infancy, the Nikon D1 cost a whopping $18,000. ... The D300 is also expected to ship in November; Nikon estimates its price to be at about $1800.

from $18,000 to $1800, this should be written into my Economics textbook!

It's a 14-24, but still pretty awesome.

I always have been on the Nikon-side; this new batch intensifies my belief in Nikon.

Wonderful.

I had to chuckle when the announcement came Nikon was releasing a full frame model, since this is an old debate I'd had with others in the past:
http://forum.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?t= ... ame+sensor

I think it's some of the best news consumers could have gotten, since this now raises the bar on what we can can expect in the future. Finally, maybe the price will start coming down in the future too.

Hopefully the noise is not 15% higher, as the current 10 MP crop cameras have too much noise.

Larger sensor should help alleviate noise at the outset, hopefully they've also improved the image processing (not that it was BAD before).

I never said it wasn't.

I have had a FF 13 MP camera for a year now anyway.

im in the serious hunt for the D300....As all fresh products go --bugs, glitches, its something that goes hand in hand with initial batches, would the D300 be worth waiting on or going right for....

Thanks,

Danny

Just think... such is happening around you every day. My Nikon Coolpix 900s retailed for just under $1,000 back in 1997. I remember when a 2400 baud Hayes modem cost $600, a great monitor $1,400, and upgrading RAM cost 1/2 what your computer did back in the mid 80's!

Everything is relative.

The D300 is a crop sensor. The D3 is semi-FF.

Your DX lenses I know will work on the D300, and I think will work with a smaller image on the D3.
