I have found the canon will give jpeg right out of the camera a great
balanced shot that needs almost nothing done to it.
its a 30d
my d 70 nikon I shoot nef and need to prosess a bit. at the end the nikon shots look to me to be stronger and more contrast , also very deep
the canon gets the mid tones like skin better.
for people i generaly like canon , for birds i tend to use nikon.
you should be fine with any of them as long as you have good lenses.
i have bad lenses and top line stuff and that will make up for any lacking
from the two of them.
optics..........

This tread has a flaming open door ofcourse.
But lately the Canon front is not as loud as it has been a half year ago.

Well they where pretty confident a few weeks ago with their crop 1,3 double digic III, Mark (sound like a spitfire) 3 processor (double is comercialy hype)

Until the new Nikon D3 came out with just 1 chip, with the fluffy name Expeed
Doing it at 9 frames. That's 2 frames slower but hell its Full frame and that especialy teased the technographers at the batle front.

For myself i just merely own a D50 and fear the day it might die.
But i know the challenge cannot be found in the camera.

Just go what looks good to you and what suits urself

The D80 is the best value now

Quality of results, build quality, breadth of accessories, performance, etc., there is nothing in the entry level to match it. P.S. I own Olympus

I'm sure any of them will do, they're all excellent cameras. But if I had to choose, I'd go for Nikon, they still have that "military-like" strength feeling (IMHO, of course).

Cheers to y'all and enjoy your cameras, no matter what make or model they are!

I would sign this...

As a former canon-or-nothing guy I must say in the meantime I am a Nikon-guy, but however, both are great makes so you cant do wrong buying one of the big brands. I like the feel of the Nikon more but this is quite subjective...

My Vote - CANON

My first one (eos 620) lasted 21 years and sold it in perfect operating condition. New owner was so happy he sent me extra money - thats right more than the original price (which was pretty low)!

IMHO look at the side lines of any sporting event - all white! The bodies are all pretty much the same, the lenses, different story - Canon Rules period! Now, unless your going to sell your stuff to SI the small difference in lenses doesn't matter.

My best advice - go to the camera store - put both in your hand, which ever feels better to you, is the right one.

Canon Rules period!

not anymore it will change :) thechnically it already did

Look at the D3 compare it to the new mk3 wich costs a ridicilous amount more

even the new d300 looks better at high iso as the 40D

nothing is permanent only change is

And about robust, look at the FM3 and such. While nikon still makes the better F6, canon never made such a super analog camera they gave up.

Nikons are known to have much more precise and reliable shutters.

My vote doesnt matter anyway

Ill never drive an Opel i always drive volkswagon its just my personal taste.

I've only used Nikon, from the FM2 and F4 in the 1980's and 1990's to the N90, F5 and D200 in recent years. Some of my favorite photographers like Galen Rowell and Art Wolfe used Nikon (although I think Art Wolfe is now with Canon).

The only reason I haven't switched to Canon is because I haven't found a reason yet to switch brands.

Read again - "Canon Rules period!", is in reference to Canons lenses not the bodies.

PS...Maybe I'll start to look more closely at some other brands besides Nikon. With the technology changing so rapidly who knows which brand will replace the current flavor of the month.
