Which compact flash card is recomeneded for the 300D. I was told that it the 300D didn't read the 24X and 40x ccards so it was not worth investing in them???

I have several. One is a 256 meg Edge card, and the main one I use is the SanDisk 1 gig card.

What it really means when they say that the 300D doesn't "read" the 24X and 40X cards is that the cards (manufactured by Lexar) uses Lexar's proprietary write acceleration technology (WA) to achieve the write speeds of 24X and 40X. The 300D (as well as the other Canon DSLR's) does not adopt the WA spec, so using Lexar cards, you will not get the 24X and 40X write speeds. As far as I am aware, the only DSLR to adopt Lexar's WA standard is Sigma (and this was added through a firmware upgrade).

While you won't get 24X and 40X write speeds, you can still read and write to the Lexar cards. Based on CF card performance tests, these Lexar cards are still near the top of the performance stats. I use a 1 gig Lexar Pro card on my EOS 10D and it works like a champ.

In the dpreview.com forums, it appears that the brands that are highly regarded are Ridata and Transcend.

Try this...

Go to Rob Galbraith's site http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/index.asp, click on CF Database in the upper left, and use the drop down to find the 300D (Rebel).
