Post Tue Oct 18, 2005 12:59 am

Hi all,
I want to buy a new digital camera, since I discovered my new hobby with a cell phone.
With my budget I considered buying a Sony DSC-S60 or a Casio EX-Z50.
Anyone knows any of those model and help me compare please?

Nikon vs. Canon - different approach to sharpening and color

Post Mon Dec 19, 2005 5:52 pm

I use Leica Digilux 2. I like the shady, deep but natural colors it provide and the overall feel of the camera ( manual rings etc.).
please look at my Myanmar photo gallery for references.

but it just aint as practical as a DSLR (exch. lens etc. ), and i am looking now for a second camera.

from looking at 1000's photos, and reviews (mainly at dpreview.com), I come to the conclusion that Nikon DSLR provide better results than Canon DSLR.
even though the CMOS sensor of the consider to be better than the Nikon (Canon has almost no noise issues!) i cant help feeling that Nikon provide richer/deeper colors and more old fashion film-like results.
E.g. the D70 produce much better results than the EOS300 and even than the 350.
how can it be ?
Am i wrong?

The camera and lens database is really a good idea, but what would make it even better, is if you could pick a camera and lens at the same time, to see how certain combos worked together, like say a 5D and 50 1.4. :D

Good suggestion...I'd reccomend that you put this in the feature request forum since that is where we look for ideas for new features.

Please Add...

Slug and Company,

Please add the following lens to the camera database:

Minolta 50mm f/1.4 AF New - 1998 (photos of this lens sent by e-mail to cameras@pbase.com)

Additionally, please add the release years to the following Minolta lenses that are already in the camera database:

Minolta 20mm f/2.8 AF - 1986 (FYI - The thumbnail photo for this lens is incorrect but when you click it the larger version is correct.)
Minolta 24mm f/2.8 AF - 1985
Minolta 28mm f/2.8 AF - 1985
Minolta 50mm f/1.7 AF - 1985
Minolta 50mm f/2.8 AF Macro I - 1985 (FYI - the photo of this lens in the db is the newer version released in 1993)
Minolta 135mm f/2.8 AF - 1985
Minolta 24-50mm f/4 AF - 1987
Minolta 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 AF I - 1994
Minolta 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 AF XI - 1991

All this data can be confirmed at the following website that I used for my research. Additionally, it has a full list of all Minolta AF lenses ever released that could be used to complete that portion of your db. It also has photos of all the lenses.

http://www.mhohner.de/minolta/lenses.php?lang=e

Additionally, the # of users for each individual piece of equipment in the camera database does not seem to be updating even though the number of images taken with that equipment is. Several items, both cameras and lenses, that I watch have been stuck at the same number of users for over 2 months now even though I know for a fact that new users have been posting images taken with this equipment. Just thought I would mention that in case you good folks had not noticed it.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for letting us know about those dates and new lenses to add. I've updated all that information so let me know if there are still anyproblems. I've also notified Slug of the problem with the user/photos updating improperly. Thanks again!
